is possible and safe to sleep at any of Paris train stations at night?
If not, which are the free/cheap places to stay?

Hi,
all big Paris stations close overnight and I wouldnt recommend to stay there. Instead, if you have a Global Pass, you could consider taking a RER train to the outskirts of the city. I have just been to Etampes, about one hour south at the end of RER C and there is a small castle/park nearby where one probably sleep rather undisturbed overnight.

Do not be surprised though if you are waked by the Gendarmerie.
