Hi,

I'm 19 and a fairly inexperianced traveler.
I'm looking to head off into Europe for a couple of weeks and i'd appreciate any advice.

The route im looking at is:

London-Belguim (Brussels + Bruge)
Belguim- Germany (Frankfurt)
Germany (Frankfurt) - Suise (Zuric)
Suise (Zuric) - Austria (innsbruck)
Austia (Innsbruck) - Germany (Munich)
Germany (Munich) - Austria (Vienna)
Austia (Vienna)- Slovakia (Brat)
Slovakia (Brat) - Hungry (Budapest)
Hungry (Budapest) - Croatia (Zagreb + Split)
Croatia (Split) - Bosnia (serjevo)

Then back to England somehow.
I don't know if this is too much for a small timescale.
So im looking for advice on route, places to visit along the way other than the major cities and all that sort of stuff!

Cheers,

Hi Landfall.

Please apologize the late reply. I'm a bit busy at the moment. ;)
For the beginning of your tour I recommend to get a special price ticket for Eurostar from London to Brussels.
In Belgium and the whole Benelux, simply avoid the Thalys trains and you will save a lot of reservation fees.

You should find all connections here at railcc - and all are free of reservation fees. Except in Croatia, but very cheap. And of course if you use a night train somewhere.
:arr: Schedules: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

If you want to save travel days, you could travel Vienna to Bratislava by a point to point ticket (EUR 10). Or just travel in the morning from Vienna to Bratislava and in the evening continue to Budapest.

I hope this information will help you planing your trip. Like mentioned above, check the railcc schedules, all you need is there (connections, train types, photos, night trains, ...).

And if you like railcc, buy your official Interrail pass via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Peter :)

Day 3 Travel day 2 Zuric - Vienna (night train)

Day 4 Vienna - Bratislvia
Travel day 2 cont

Day 5 Travel day 3 Bratislavia - Budapest

Day 6 Budapest

Day 7 Travel day 4 Budapest - Zagreb

Day 8 Travel Day 5 Zagreb - Prauge

Day 9 Travel day 6 Prauge - Berlin

Day 10 Berlin

Day 11 Berlin - Hannover

Day 11 Travel day 7 Hannover - Amsterdam (night train)

Day 12 Amsterdam

Day 13 Travel day 8 Amsterdam - Brussels
Brussels - London

I'll mostly be arriving into towns in the early evenings then leaving late afternoon the next day where possible really.

Can you see any potential issues with the route and have I understood the night rules right?

Looks good your route.
Try to get special fares for the Eurostar London to Brussels and return. Book early. As the Interrail supplement for the Eurostar train is horrible EUR 75 one-way. :(

Some small changes and information. And like mentioned, always check the railcc schedules to avoid extra reservation fees!!
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Day 4
Vienna
Stay in Vienna - much more to do and see in Vienna instead of Bratislava.

Day 5
Travel day 3
Vienna - Bratislava (arrive in the morning, continue in the evening) - Budapest

Day 7
Travel day 4
Budapest - Zagreb
Instead of Zagreb I personally would include Krakow! Use the night train here.

Day 8
Travel Day 5
Zagreb - Prague
Krakow to Prague instead of Zagreb. Use the night train here.

Day 11
Travel day 6
Berlin - Hanover
Instead of Hanover, stay in Hamburg.

Day 11
Travel day 7
Hanover - Amsterdam (night train)
Hamburg to Amsterdam by day train. The night train Hanover to Amsterdam is not worth to use!

Sounds good :)

In terms of night train booking/reservation, should it be done in advance?

Also, are hostels particually busy in the first couple of weeks in september, is booking needed?

Hostels: check [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] - then you can see if rooms are still free. If you know you exact travel dates, book in advance the big cities like Vienna or Amsterdam. As you can book online, just do it during your trip - most hostels offer free internet access. Keep a bit your freedom and flexibility.

Night trains: You should book Zurich to Vienna in advance at Brussels. As much as I know you can't book an Interrail reservation for it online.
The other night trains book during your trip for example in Zurich or Vienna.
