Mmmmh... it is okay to have a guide giving you some hints on sightseeing spots and so on.
So I would say: yes, buy it. Better than having nothing with you.
Usually you also get a map for the city with some spots in the hostel you stay ...
Also a nice and helpful book is the Thomas Cook European train schedules (on the right): [u]https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route[/u]
