Hi, I'm (+ a friend) Interrailing for the first time. 15 days pass, in August, trying to keep it LOW BUDGET. We've booked a flight from Lisbon to Venice, where we are going to start. Here is our plan A.
Venice
Ljubljana (day 1)
Bled
Budapest
Krakow
Prague
Dresden or Nuremberg
Somewhere in Germany, close to Strasbourg (Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Stuttgart)
Strasbourg
Lisbon (probably via Paris), (day 15)

Completely open to suggestions.
Dresden or Nuremberg? where to go next? Bled, Ljubljana, Trieste/Skokjan caves which 2 or all three?
First timer questions: how safe is to sleep is train stations in the more expensive cities (Venice, Germany, Strasbourg)?
Is it doable?

if you get close enough to Strasbourg, deffo spend a night there. If not, Heidelberg is good for sight seeing but Stuttgart amongst these cities is by far the best for night life.

Hi.
I would go to Nuremberg - but Dresden is also nice.
Then as next stop Heidelberg - good student night life on weekends.
Where to spent the evening: https://rail.cc/en/heidelberg/lower-street/l452
Where to end at night: https://rail.cc/en/heidelberg/cave/l40
Where to stay overnight: https://rail.cc/en/heidelberg/lotte-the-backpackers/l448

Sleep at stations - often it is not allowed to sleep in stations - and the surrounding area isn't that nice.
Better use a late local train and travel to a smaller village and stay there, than in one of the big cities.

Peter :)
