Hello! I have been using railcc for sometime to try and plan my upcoming honeymoon. I have a pretty good idea of the travel route but wanted to confirm with you expert travelers! I've never traveled to Europe and it's pretty daunting, so any help available is welcome. Here is the plan:

Barcelona for 3 nights
(only item booked so far)

Flight to Rome, stay 1 night
(a flight seems to be the cheapest option)

Train to Florence, stay 2 nights

Train to Venice, stay 2 nights

Train to Brig then to Zermatt
(unsure where to stay around Zermatt... at the Matterhorn is likely the most expensive option so looking for something close by and cheaper)

We're also interested in seeing Lucerne and/or Grindelwald. Can these be seen in one day?

From Switzerland, we will end up in Amsterdam for the last leg of our trip. Would flying be the best option from Geneva?

Thank you!

-Missi

Hi Missi ...
Just some short notes...
Barcelona to Rome is also possible by ferry... a nice trip: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-ferry/barcelona-civitavecchia/23
Or by night train via Milan: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/barcelona-milan-elipsos-1127/127

More information: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/barcelona-to-rome

And Switzerland to Amsterdam, very easy by overnight train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/zurich-amsterdam-cnl40478/17
Or use a free day train, but don't use a plane! :)

Switzerland is in general extremely expensive, I was shocked last year and only rush trough now. Just some ideas and photos for Switzerland:

Close to Barcelona is the Little Yellow Train ... think about it. :)

And finally: if you want to travel cheap and save money, but want to have a lot of fun an nice accommodation, travel to Eastern Europe... Budapest, Belgrade, Krakow, Prague, Vienna, Berlin and so on ... :)

Peter :)
