Hey,
So I am an American student going to Uni in London. I have been here since Sept of 2011 with a extended student visa that doesn't expire till 2015. I would like to travel to Europe this summer and was confused by the Eurail vs InterRail passes...
I have lived here for over 6 months so would I be counted as an European-resident even though I am an American citizen? (Which of course means that I should purchase the InterRail pass)
Also my American friend is flying over here in July, does she just buy the Eurail pass for herself? Should I get her to purchase me one since we are traveling together?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
since you have been living in the UK since September 2011 your country of residence currently is the UK - thus you are eligible for IR and in fact have to buy InterRail.
Your friend has to buy a EuRail pass since she is currently living in the US. In most cases it is no problem to travel together, even if you have to buy extra reservations. Just watch out which countries you want to visit since EuRail is not valid in all 30 InterRail countries!
More details about InterRail passes (for you) :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail and EuRail passes (for your friend) :arr: https://rail.cc/en/eurail
And read here about the country of residence rule :arr: https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail
In case there are any other questions, just ask. If you want to support railcc and all information you get on here, you can buy your InterRail and EuRail passes in our online shop - thank you! :)
Note that EuRail passes cannot be shipped inside Europe so your friend would have to buy the EuRail pass as long as she is the US.
