Hello,

We are planning our first interrail trip in August and we're looking for some tips or suggestions. We are going from Arnhem (Holland) to Budapest - Sarajevo - Mostar - Dubrovnik - Split - Zagreb (Plitvice) - Ljubljana - Bled - Venice. We have a 10 in 22 days interrail ticket but we're only using up 8 of the travel days since we have to use a lot of busses in Croatia. This site has been very helpful but we still have a few questions:

- Is taking a bus from Mostar to Dubrovnik the best option? Or should we take the train to Ploce, and from there the bus to Dubrovnik? (we have 2 travel days left on our ticket)

-We want to spend 2 days in Dubrovnik and maybe visit an island for one day (does anyone know an nice island to spend the day? We also heard that Kotor, Montenegro is a nice place to visit?)

- We will only spend a few hours in Split. Is this enough to see the city? or do you recommend one more day in Split instead of Dubrovnik?

- We want to take a very early bus (around 5.45 or so > directly after we arrive with the night train from Split) from Zagreb to the Plitvice lakes, spend the day there and return in the evening? Is there a better way to do this daytrip?

Hopefully someone can tell us if this trip is planned the right way and can give us some tips or suggestions! Thanks!

Hi.
I can't answer all your questions ... but give you some information... :)
Mostar to Dubrovnik: there are two direct buses running daily if I remember right. It is faster by direct bus. But on Ploce - Split - Dubrovnik there also frequent buses... I personally would go to Ploce and then by bus - but I simply love train travel, that's why I would chose the train. ;)
From Budapest you will definitely cross Belgrade - also worth a stay.
From Belgrade you could travel to Montenegro (day train, amazing route!!): https://rail.cc/en/interrail/belgrade-to-bar
Then cross the border to Dubrovnik (just mentioned some days before here in the forum - search for it). :)
Dubrovnik is nicer than Split in my eyes. So better to stay in Dub.

And finally... if you like railcc and all the information, support us and buy your official Interrail pass in our partner. Thank you. :)
