Hi, I was about to buy an interrail ticket for early september yesterday.

But I have been told that there were quotas in all trains that need reservation for interrail ticket owners (according to SNCF). Acutally, I could not get 50% discout on the ticket price *just* because the quota of interrailers is reached.

I have never heard or read about quotas on this forum .

I agree that it is normal that high speed trains should be reserved.
But is there any point paying 360 euros if there is a risk to be out of quota all along the way ? Or does it mean I should never travel on friday evenings and saturdays for instance ?

Is it something special with SNCF (I suspect it) or is it the same in all countries ?

This is true, but as long as you are flexible it shouldnt be too much of a problem

We only had a problem twice, once trying to book the paris to rome sleeper, which was full for interrailers even though we were booking it a couple of days in advance. In the end we had to take the train the following night, so no big deal really.

This is also true in holland, on the Thalys train to paris, which was also full for interrailers, but we were told we could get a slower train to brussels and then use the Thalys to Paris.

I am not sure about other countries as we never had a problem

Hope this helps

Hey...

I only heard about this problem for the TGV (SNCF), some night trains (but there it is understandable as they are always heavy used in the summer months) and on special trains like Thalys and Eurostar. ||

have fun,
Peter
