How do you define best?

Are you InterRailing, is it a single trip,...?

Hi.

With Interrail via Paris:

Barcelona - Paris: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/barcelona-to-paris
Paris - Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/paris-to-amsterdam

:!: You can save a lot of extra reservation fees, selecting cheap connections by the links above!
Think about adding the Little Yellow Train in the Pyrenees on Barcelona-Paris.

Or see as well Barcelona - Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/barcelona-to-amsterdam

Peter :)

Thank you...by best I mean cheapest and using least trains. I have an interrailing pass it is 10 trains within 22 days so don't want to use all the trains up at once. Is it possible to buy an additional pass when out there?

Hi,

umm, the 10in22 pass means 10 travel days within a period of 22days. So, you can use as much trains as you want on each travel day from 0000 - 2359. Change trains as often as you like - only watch out for extra reservations that might be needed on some trains.

The best way would be overnight I think. First to either Cerbere or Latour de Carol, then with a French domestic night train to Paris:
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/barcelona-to-paris

Then Paris to Amsterdam - you can choose between the fast, direct but expensiv Thalys or you change several time and save on reservation costs:
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-amsterdam

If you dont mind reservation costs the trip would be even possible within a single day:

Hi Rachel26.

Like mentioned above just have a look at the railcc schedules: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
And as well at the electronic schedules to get an impression about a possible travel route: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Florence - Venice: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/florence-to-venice

Venice - Slovenia (Border crossing): https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/
Example Venice - Ljubljana: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/venice-to-ljubljana

Ljubljana - Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/ljubljana-to-zagreb

Zagreb - Split: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/zagreb-to-split

Other option by ferry:
Florence - Ancona: use the electronic schedule planer above. You have several connections per day. You can even travel this route for free using regional trains.

Ancona - Split: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-ferry/ancona-split/italy-croatia/37
