Hello!
I am planning on inter-railing this summer for about a month in August and will be buying my pass from this site once I have sorted out all my plans. I would just like some advice as I haven't been inter-railing before, and you seem to know your stuff on here :)
I would be a solo female traveller, possibly meeting my friend halfway round on the trip. I have already booked a flight to Barcelona because it was the cheap! And three nights in a hostel in Barcelona.
I'd like some ideas on possible travel routes starting in Barcelona? I would quite like to fit Madrid, other parts of Spain, Germany, Prague, Budapest, and possibly Italy into my trip but i'm open to other suggestions! :D
I am also a bit confused about the train reservations, can I make reservations through this site? And if so how far in advance would I need to do it?
Thank you!!! :D x

Hi.
One month is a lot of time, to see a lot. I recommend 2 or 3 nights per place you stay.
First: reservations. Some you can book in advance, but I recommend not to do so - the best and easiest way is always to buy them directly at a railway station (not possible in the UK), during your trip. So you stay flexible if you meet other travellers or ... :)

If you start from Barcelona, you have several options in Spain, do a little round trip. Madrid, Sevilla, maybe even add Lisbon.
But then continue from Barcelona, for example with the Little Yellow Train crossing the Pyrenees ( https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/ ) then continue in direction of Nice (France).

From there over to Italy. Visit of some cities if you like (Rome, Florence, ...) but you can also rush trough, either leaving via Venice to Slovenia ( https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/ ) or a nice option the free travel route from Milan to Zurich crossing the Alps: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/milan-to-zurich
But I recommend not to stay very long in Switzerland as it is really expensive there!

You could continue for example to Munich.
For Germany we have a little round trip here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-travel-tour-package/one-week-round-trip-germany/munich-dresden-berlin-cologne-heidelberg/21
Check if you want to see some of the stops. Germany is very easy to travel by Interrail. Frequent connections and free trains! :)

Also you have easy access from Berlin or Munich to Prague... from Prague for example to Krakow (Poland), then Budapest, go on to Vienna ... and via Munich by night train to Paris.
From there for example by inexpensive bus to London (don't use the expensive Eurostar trains, either buy a special price ticket or use the bus): https://rail.cc/en/interrail/paris-to-london

A lot of train connections are listed here - all with the information if a reservation is required or not - also free alternative routes. Just have a look on it: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Now it is time to plan a little bit by yourself. :)

And do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions...! Thank you for supporting railcc with your purchase via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
:)

Peter :)
