Hi everyone:)
My mother & I will be visiting Nice for 7 days in mid-July this year. We have both never been there before & we want to make the best of our trip.
While in Nice we would like to visit Venice, Milan, Rome & Florence. It won't necessarily be in this order. What I would like to find out, what will be the best combination of these destinations? We would like to spend some time in each of these, not just 15min to change trains.
What will be the cheapest option to each? Will it be better to get one of the train passes or would it be better to fly to some of them?
Thanks in advance!:)
Kind regards,
Adel

Hi Adel.
Do not fly! It is so easy and cheap by train - and as well much more comfortable. Trains start and arrive in the city centers. No need of long check-ins and so on. :)
I recommend to travel like this:
Nice - Ventimiglia: by local train, running every hour. Buy the ticket directly in the station of Nice: EUR 5,60. No need to reserve and no limitations of seats.
If you want to visit these cities, do it in the following order (you can change it of course):
Ventimiglia - Milan
Milan - Venice
Venice - Florence
Florence - Rome
All these connections are available for online booking (e-tickets) at trenitalia.it (Italian national railway company).
And if you book the point to point tickets early, you will get very good prices!
The special prcies tickets are fixed on date, time and train - but this shouldn't be a problem. All are direct trains and I suppose you book you hotels/hostels as well in advance.
Have a sunny trip,
Peter :)

Hi Peter:)
Thanks so much for your response, I really appreciate it!
We will definitely take your advice in terms of booking in advance and then travelling by train rather than flying.
This has REALLY been a very helpfyul website & I am recommending it to all my friends. I have learnt a lot here asnd it has really helped me plan my trip well and understand rail passes, etc. Thanks for making this website so user-friendly and interactive - IT'S GREAT:)
Have a great day

Hi Adel.
It is good to hear that the information helped you. And the best help for railcc is to tell friends about it. :)
If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask!
And best wishes to South Africa (where I stayed already several times and loved it!).

Hi Peter :)
I am definitely already spreading the word!
I just have two very quick questions:
On the Trenitalia website you have a choice between a Super Economy, Economy & Base ticket. If I know my exact travel dates and times, is it ok to buy the Super Economy tickets or should I rather opt for the Economy tickets to be safe?
And my last question is, if we purchase the tickets in advance on the Trenitalia website, do we print a copy of the tickets and use that at the stations, do we have to collect it at the station, or do we get a reference number to redeem our tickets?
It would be of great help if you could clarify the above ASAP, we would like to purchase the tickets tonight if that's possible:)
Thanx again for all your help!

Adel

Hi Adel.
If you know your exact travel dates go for the Super Economy fares. Even 1st class tickets are then extremely cheap. :)
You can buy e-tickets and as much as I know you get a code which you have to tell the staff in the train. It will be mentioned on how to do it on the e-tickets you get. But no need to pick them up at stations, everything will be online. If you buy Trenitalia tickets here in the railcc shop (currently we can't offer the Super Economic fares), you get a code by email which you tell the train staff. That's it.
Have a nice evening, Peter :)
