Hi all

Going interrailing for the first time this July. Was hoping someone would be able to give us information on a few things.

We have an interrail pass and are not sure if reservation fees will be very expensive?

Are the trains very busy and hard to find a reservation/seat with interrail pass?

How long should we reserve in advance for trains, can this be done on the same day?

Is it best to reserve at the train station when we arrive?

We are worried that we will have trouble reserving trains and have to pay high fees

We are looking to get a train from Amsterdam to Paris on the 5th of July. We arrive there on the 4th.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,

first, let's hope you purchased your IR passes at railcc - this way you would support our work here and all the information you get. :)

- Reservation for each country can be found here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

- In some countries (France for example) seats for IR holders are limited and you should try to make your reservations early. On connections where only a few trains run daily it is advisable to make reservations in advance, but on most lines you have several options a day or can take regional trains without reservations. Also, we recommend to make night train reservations early, as their capacity usually is limited.

- It is best to make reservations at train stations - at most stations you can make reservations at least for the neighbouring countries as well. For some trains online reservation is possible but getting them at a station is the common and easiest way.

- Dont worry, it will all be fine. It's an adventure at least. :)

Hi flow, thanks for the advice it is really appreciated.

I had a look at the link you gave regarding the times and reservations for Amsterdam- Paris. It says the reservation fee will be £44 which seems really expensive? Is this normal? Are there any alternative routes or destinations we can choose that will be cheaper.

Thanks again

Hej,

well, the direct connections are with Thalys which is that expensive - our info is usually up to date. ;)
Anyway, check the link again, there are many alternative routes with no or very low reservation fees listed.
