Hej,

yes this would be an ok route.

However, consider that there are no trains from Slovenia to Italy at the moment - we have described the best way to cross the border here :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/

Also, going from Split to Italy takes its time! The best way to do this is to take the Split - Zagreb night train, then make your way to Ljubljana, then Nova Gorica, then cross the border as described in the above link. It is _possible_ to get as far as Bologna but this would come with a late arrival and the need to pay for a reservation between Venezia and Bologna.
From Bologna you can work your way to the Cote d'Azur via Milano...but it will be difficult to reach Marseille within a day. This would take again the whole day I fear.

Beside the links Hetman gave you also have a look here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route and here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route for informations about train schedules.

OR-use an overnight ferryboat from Split (or wherever along the Hrvatska coast) to IT-mostly Ancona-and train onward from there. Tcikets cost about 50€/high season for deck space ( https://rail.cc/en/split/ferry/c ). you may save on the nr of days in your pass also that way. Split is not the most intersting town along the coast there. people tend to choose it as its about the only one with a good railink inward-which means you have to go in+out same way.

thanks for that. do you recommend another place in Croatia that might be better to visit and more easily accessible to get around? somewhere similar to Split and Dubrovnik maybe, or nicer would be a bonus.. :)

Well, why not go to Zagreb with the early train, deposit your luggage at the station, spend the day there and then go by night train to Split as planned? Dubrovnik is really nice and frequent buses connect the two cities.

Rail connections to the coast are generally not that good in Croatia - you could only go to Rijeka - Optaija in the north (Rijeka being more of a industrial town, Optaija is an old Austrian resort but mainly frequented by pensioners as it seems).
There is supposed to be a direct Budapest - Pula sleeper during the summer although running only twice weekly as the direct Split train. You could also go to Koper in Slovenia then by bus to nearby Piran and then continue by bus to Triest and by train again towards rest of Italy - France.

thats it-use brains-do not blindly cross off some places you may hav tread to be ''nice'' but look at how the timings are set and adapt. maybe you discover some things yoyu had never dreamt off. thats also part of this InterRail spectacle.
If you only want to go fast-fast: earn more money and hire a private jet.
