Hello there!
First of all I think the website is an excellent resource!
Currently I am in Paris, France with an EuRail pass valid in the following countries:
Croatia/Slovenia - France -Italy - Portugal - Spain
And I am having some serious issues. Im pretty upset that they allowed us to purchase a pass that relies on the border between Italy and Croatia without any way to get there via rail WITHOUT connecting in either Austria / Germany.
Does anyone know a way I can arrive at Rijeka station without connecting through Villach HBF? I am leaving France tomorrow and the only route I can find that is valid is through Italy, but I keep running into problems (all routes double back and pick up in Villach.
Im kind of stranded! Any help is appreciated!

Hi.
You have to cross the border close to Venice - to Slovenia and continue from there. It is a bus service: 4km, EUR 1,10.
Read here for details: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/

Peter,
Youre the man! I stumbled on that using the search function after I posted. You must monitor the pages very closely and you do an excellent job. This is such a wicked resource.
Thanks!

PETER!
One more question!
I have found our way from Paris Lyon to Venezia Mestre.
Then, following this time table:
https://rail.cc/en/train/venice-to-rijeka
I see that I take a train from Venezia Mestre to Goriza, then the bus to Slovenia, etc. My confusion is with all the slovenia stops, they are listed as change train stops, but the depart and arrival times are the same. Is this itinerary possible to do? Am i missing something?
Thanks so much!

Hi,
I've checked the connection, it is all up to date, the timings are all correct. You have to change several times in Slovenia and sometimes connection time is quite short especially at Sezana and Divaca but the stations are small and the transfer should be no problem. Just from one platform to the other. :)
What route have you in mind for Paris - Venezia. Consider that currently the reservation fees for the direct TGV to Milano (which some time ago didnt even accept InterRail/EuRail travellers) are ridiculously high! And the Thello night train does not accept IR/ER at all.

Our route from Paris Lyon to Venezia Mestre leaves Paris Lyon at 1041. I cant seem to find any information about the TGV fares? My train is direct from Paris to Milano and then Milano to Venizeia.
Any Idea how expensive the fares are on top of the Eurail pass?

I have read it's 55€ currently for the direct TGV Paris - Milano. The Frecciabianca services Milano - Venezia cost 10€.
By the way, you usually need a reservation before boarding a train - if you dont have one yet you'll have to check that tomorrow. In your case I would show up in Paris Gare de Lyon early and try to get a reservation for your train to Milano (in case you want to spend that money).
Alternatively, take a TGV Lyria to Switzerland to either Geneve or Zürich (Zürich is better in my opinion). 9€ reservation. From Zürich, you can go to Milano with no further reservation costs, have a look here. :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/zurich-to-milan (connections similar to that at 0709 run every two hours - basically take any Zürich - Milano EC train but only stay until Chiasso, the border station to Italy, from there go by regional trains to Milano to avoid the 10€ reservation that you would need if you stay on the EC until Milano)
From Milano you then still have Frecciabianca connections (10€ reservation) to Venezia.
A possible route could look like this:
Paris Lyon 1023 - 1426 Zürich HB :arr: TGV Lyria, 9€ reservation
Zürich HB 1509 - 1808 Chiasso
Chiasso 1816 - 1903 Monza
Monza 1927 - 1940 Milano Centrale
Milano 2005 - 2240 Venezia SL
or a regional train without reservation:
Milano 2025 - 2350 Venezia SL
If possible, take an earlier train from Paris, departures are at 0615 and 0823. The remainder to Milano then is similar.
However, I would recommend to stay in Milano as accomodation probably is cheaper than in Venezia.
If you go to Geneve, you have to continue to Italy via Brig, but on this route reservation fees cant be that easily avoided:
Paris Lyon 0911 - 1216 Geneve :arr: TGV Lyria, 9€ reservation
Geneve 1342 - 1735 Milano Centrale :arr: EC, 10€ reservation
There are earlier and later connections available although not as frequent as via Zürich.
Option without reservation for Geneve - Milano:
Geneve 1236 - 1502 Brig
Brig 1707 - 1745 Domodossola
Domodossola 1810 - 2013 Milano Porta Garibaldi (15 min walk from Centrale, or by metro)
Hope that helps.

You dont cross Germany on that route! Or do you mean Switzerland?
If you cannot cross Switzerland, the only other reasonable option is to go via the Cote d'Azur, take a TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon to Nice, then you can go along the coast via Ventimiglia - Genova to Milano. You need a TGV reservation for 6€ plus an optional reservation for an IC on the route from Ventimiglia (3€).
Possible connection:
Paris Lyon 1049 - 1626 Nice Ville
Nice Ville 1655 - 1743 Ventimiglia
Ventimiglia 1858 - 2250 Milano Centrale
Earlier connections possible.

You are unbelievably helpful! I am definitely financially supporting this project when I am through.
From Milano, it should be easy enough to get to Venezia Santa Lucia?

Thanks! Glad to help. :)
Yeah, during the day, Frecciabianca fast trains run at least hourly, 10€ reservation; if you want to travel without reservation there are several direct regional trains as well as some connecting services via Verona.
However, the two above listed connections leaving Milano at 2005 and 2025 are almost the latest trains - there is only another Frecciabianca at 2105 and a CNL at 2135, however I wouldnt recommend the latter due to reservation issues.
First train in the morning is at 0635.

Just as it came in my mind. If TGV Paris to Nice is full, try it the non-official way: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/tgv-sncf/42
Milan - Venice: https://rail.cc/en/train/milan-to-venice

Thanks you guys! I will be through the forum regularly.
For now, I will be heading to Milano Centrale from Paris Lyon via the suggested Cote D'Azur route!
Thanks for all the help!
