Hi - I'm looking to leave Paris on July 3rd to be in San Sebastian by July 4th. What is the best way to get to San Sebastian..has anyone done it? I've found the most popular is travelling on the TGV to Hendaye and then continuing on to San Sebastian. There are no available reservations through railcc for pass holders to do so. I'm looking for alternative ways to get to San Sebastian on a tight budget. I do own a Eurail pass so if possible would like to take advantage of that. Please get back to me when you have a chance.

Thanks!

Hej,

just get a reservation for a TGV to Irún (twice daily) in Paris at the station for 6€. If these two trains are sold out, you can go by TGV as far as Bordeaux or Dax and then continue by regional trains (TER) without reservation. Doing the whole trip from Paris with trains with no reservation is almost impossible within one day...I would not recommend it..
Another alternative would be the night train to Irún (6€ a seat, 20€ a couchette).

From Irún, Cercanias suburban trains run about half hourly to San Sebastian. If you dont use a TGV or the night train south of Bordeaux/Dax (that means if you are travelling with a regional train) you will not get as far as Irún - these trains stop on the French side of the border in Hendaye. In that case you have to use Euskotren light rail to cross the border, a ticket is about 1€. Euskotren calls in Irún where you can change to San Sebsatian. Or, if you want to invest a little more money, you can go with Euskotren all the way to San Sebastian as well.

Hey Flo,

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I am in Canada so can't book a reservation in Paris until I get there. I will be in London 4 days before I would like to travel from Paris->San Seb, can I reserve in London or is there a site/number I can call to reserve? I called ACP and they didnt seem to have anything available. Please let me know the best way to go about reserving, I would prefer the night train on July 3rd. Thanks!

Hi Logan,

in that case I would recommend to order your reservation for the night train either via the railcc online shop or via the website of SNCF, follow the link here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train-tickets/france/fr (select your journey and Abo Forfait 2eme, then you get only the reservation which you can use together with your EuRail pass). :)
