Hello, I'm going to do a InterRail trip with the 5 days within 10 days Global Pass Flexi and I need some advices about the route that I should take.

The main travel plan it's like this:

- Bologna -> Venezia
- Vienna
- Prague
- (Some city/cities in Germany/Luxemburg/Belgium or something in the neighbour countries)
- Paris -> Barcelona.

Since I only have 5 days to use the pass to travelling I ask you a little help to plan the trip.

I hope someone could help me :)

Bye, :D

Hi,

with only five travel days you cant do this route as planned since you would need at least six travel days! Thus, I recommend to get a regular ticket for Bologna - Venezia, as this would be the cheapest leg of the route.

Bologna - Venezia: Regular ticket bought on the day in a regional train is 10,75€ only, tickets for faster IC/AV trains start at 9€ when bought in advance.
Venezia - Wien: Best option is the direct night train :arr: https://rail.cc/de/zug/venedig-nach-wien
Wien - Praha: Several direct EC trains, no reservation needed :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/vienna-to-prague
Praha - somewhere: That's difficult, I would recommend to go as far as possible in direction of Paris, for example Luxembourg should be possible within a day when leaving Praha early and going via Berlin - Köln.
Somewhere - Paris: From Luxembourg you would have a direct TGV connection to Paris, if you are going elsewhere, take care not to take a Thalys train, as they are horribly expensive for InterRail users.
Paris - Barcelona: You have to use a night train from Paris, I recommend to either go to Latour de Carol or Cerbere; if you want I recommend to go with Petit Train Jaune the following morning - it is all explained here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-barcelona

Hi, first of all thanks for the tips.

My main goal at the end of the trip is to go to Barcelona by Paris taking the day-time TGV (to Figueres-Vilafant ) since it only cost 3€ of fare.

However, if you know a better (cheaper and not so long :D ) route from Prague to Barcelona please show me, because until now going to Paris and then to Barcelona seems the best option as I only have 5 days of travelling.

TGV reservations cost 6€. Mind that you still have to go from Figueres to Barcelona. The TGV train arrives at Vilafant station, where you have a direct connection to Barcelona with an Alvia for which another reservation for 6,50€ is required!
Your other option would be to take a bus or go by foot to the other station in Figueres on the old Portbou - Barcelona main line and take a regional train to Barcelona from there.

Well, it is difficult for me to propose another route for you since I dont know what you like...if you want to go to Paris, the current route is quite ok I think.

Hi again,

I've been scheduling the trip and I will have to use a night train and a TGV from Luxembrug to Paris. Since these trains need reservation I wanna know how can I buy the tickets for these trains since I'm not in that countries (France, Luxemburg) right now?
By other words, where and when do I buy the tickets for trains that need reservation? And there is any site to buy online?

bye

Hi.
Which night train connection you want to book?
TGV Luxembourg to Paris: is also possible at other railway stations outside of France or Luxembourg.
Or read here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/tgv-sncf/42

I wanna book the night train from Paris to Perpignan to then take the Yellow Train to Barcelona as suggested by Flo.

If I book it at the train station just before to board the train is any possibility of the tickets being sold out? And the same question for the TGV from Luxemburg to Paris?

What are the odds of tickets being all sold out if I just book in the train station just before board the train? :D

Sorry to interrupt - but I have pre-booked my ticket from Montpellier to Figueres Vilafant using the TGV and the reservation did only cost me 3€. On my ticket it says 'valid with interrail pass' so I have the correct reservation too.

Hi Toshiya, when did you booked the ticket? Really cost only 3€? Because at the interrail official site the reservation fare nowadays has increased to 9€. :-/

By the way, can you tell me where did you pre-booked your ticket? because until now I don't know where to buy.

Hej, I'm also interested in where you booked your ticket! :)

The situation with TGV reservations seems to be a little confusing once again as I have come across several different reservation prices. :|

@cast32: Booking the train just before boarding isnt the best idea during peak summer. Better get the reservation in advance at a station. You can also book the reservation online via :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train-tickets/france/fr
Select the train wanted and Abo Forfait 2eme as an option - this seems to be an official reservation for night trains; it is also accepted on TGV although not officially valid for IR. ;)

I booked it through raileur*pe which is the UK version of the SNCF website if I remember correctly.
I checked my ticket and it says 'valable avec pass Interrail' so it's definitely the correct ticket.
And only 3 euros per person :)
I checked on a random date and it's 3 euros from Paris - Figueres. I did wonder if it was different because I'm only going from Montpellier but no, that's also 3.

Hope this helps :)

Edit: My bad! It is £3, not 3 euro, but that is still cheaper than 6 euros, more like 3.50euros :)
