Hi there,

I am planning on buying an Interrail pass.

However, before doing so, unfortunately, I have to ask the continuously posed question regarding the country of residence.

I have already researched a little bit in this forum but as a good friend of mine likes to say: better safe than sorry.

Here is my situation: I am a German citizen and I am currently studying in Malta. I have an official Maltese residency certificate, stating that I have been living in Malta since December 2011.
So I think I should have no problem with the six months rule.

Now, I am planning to fly to Germany for the semester break, stay at my parents' place for a couple of days and then start inter-railing.

To my understanding, I am allowed to use the DB-trains without having to pay extra, as long as I have the residency certificate[non-German resident] and my German passport[EU citizen] with me.

Is this correct or am I missing something?

Thx in advance

Hi.
It is correct.
As your Maltese residency certificate is stating that you lived the past 6 months (or even longer) in Malta.
With your Maltese Interrail Pass, you can use the German trains without to pay for it (except night trains, etc). But Malta is then your country of residence - lucky man! :)
If you buy your Interrail Pass here at railcc, you will directly support use. Note: in the online shop select first in the top right corner the country where the ticket has to be sent to. In the next steps when checking out, select as your country Malta and fill in the ID number of your passport. Always have these documents with you during your trip!
If you buy the ticket at a station, for example in Germany, pay attention to get a Maltese Interrail Pass and not a German one!!!

Thx for the conformation, Peter.

I would love to buy it through the online shop as I think that you guys are doing an outstanding job! :)

However, when it comes to selecting the shipping method, the only choice I have is:
Express Shipping - Allow Up To 7 Business Days - 17.00.

For a shipping address in Germany, that looks quite expensive... :|

Or am I doing something wrong here?

In deed it is expensive - we try to lower the shipping price - but seems to take a while until Autumn. :'(
The reason: last year the shipping was still free. But now we have to send the expensive tickets by secure mail, getting a confirmation that they arrived at the customer. Last year there was some customers ripping us off.
Sorry for that!
Only option for you is to add the Bahn-Sicherheitsplan Plus (Railguard Safety Plan Plus) for about EUR 19. Then your ticket is protected against lost and theft - no need to do this, but then the shipping is for free.
For you to decide now. o)
Have a nice evening, Peter :)
