Me and two friends are travelling with an interrail pass in August. We'd like to take a night train from Prague to Vienna on the 14th of August but I'm a bit confused about reservations. As I understand it we would only have to pay for the reservation of a couchette, and not for the train ride itsself? Is there any way we can book this online beforehand or should we just do it when we're in Prague? (and if we can't book it online yet, does anyone know how much the reservation will cost approximately?)
I already read a few threads about it on here ut I'm still not sure...

Hi,
if you are travelling with an InterRail pass, you only have to pay for the reservation, the InterRail pass being your ticket.
You can find a list of all night trains with timings and reservation costs here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
The Praha - Wien night train is this one :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/berlin-vienna-en-40477/46
A reservation is only compulsory for a bed in a couchette or sleeper; if you want to travel in regular seats there is no reservation required for the Praha - Wien leg.
And if you want to support our work here at railcc, please buy your IR tickets at our partner, see the blue bar below. Thank you. :)

Thanks for the info. But I'm still not really sure how I can book a reservation for a bed in a couchette online. When I look for the date in August I get the message that the prices are currently unavailable. So I did a search for dates closer to today (just so I would already know prices and stuff) and this comes up:
Journey Details
Depart PRAHA HL N at 00:05 - Arrive BRATISLAVA HLAVNA ST at 05:38 (Train service, number: 477)
Depart BRATISLAVA HLAVNA ST at 06:46 - Arrive Wien Suedbf at 07:58 (Train service, number: 2505)
Book these trains separately
So I looked those trains up seperately but I still get the message that I should book them seperately? I'm still confused, sorry. And if I look it up through the Deutsche Bahn website it keeps on saying tickets aren't available online?

Oh, sorry I forgot. Well, not all trains are possible to reserve online, the common procedure is to do so at a train station. :)
You can do so for instance at a train station in Belgium or while you are on your trip.

Oh ok, so we should just get them while we're already travelling. Thanks a lot for the fast reply! :)

Yeah, that would be the best. As I mentioned before, getting reservations directly at stations is the standard procedure - getting reservations online is still quite complicated and only possible for a certain number of trains, not all of them. At stations it is usually possible to get reservations for most trains in Europe, depending on the country.
I dont know about your route but it should be ok to get the reservation some days in advance, for instance in Berlin. :)

Well we start in Stockholm and then go to Copenhagen and Berlin, those night trains were easy to book online so I got a bit confused after that. :)
