Cologne - Basel - Bern

Hiya, I need to get a train from Cologne to Bern. I know I need to change at Basel and the train from Cologne to Basel I can travel with my interrail pass without a reservation. But do I need to book a seat for the Basel to Bern part of the journey? It's only about an hour so I don't mind standing, it doesn't seem worth £6, but will they let me on without it? Thanks! :)
