Hi James...
If you have the time, I would change your route a little bit.
Travelling the following route, you could include several night trains.

Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Krakow - Budapest - Croatia - Slovenia (Lake Bled) - Italy

Train schedules here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Slovenia to Italy: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/

Peter :)

Hi Peter thanks for getting back to me. Lake bled looks amazing... A must see place!! I've not booked anything yet do you think making reservations for trains a week or two before will be ok?

Hi James.

If you won't use night trains, you can travel the trip free of reservations. Only on some steps you will need a very cheap reservation which you can buy directly at the railway stations you leave.
If you want to use night trains, have a look at the links and you see where you can book them. A good place to book them offline to the official prices is for example Berlin main station ( https://rail.cc/en/berlin/berlin-central-railway-station/l146 ). English speaking and good service! :)

Amsterdam - Berlin: free - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/amsterdam-to-berlin

Berlin - Prague: free - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/berlin-to-prague

Prague - Vienna: free - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/prague-to-vienna

Vienna - Krakow: at station (EUR 4) - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/vienna-to-krakow

Krakow - Budapest: at station (EUR 4) - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/krakow-to-budapest

Budapest - Ljubljana (the day trains stop in Bled and you can exit there. No need to travel to Ljubljana): free - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/budapest-to-ljubljana

Lake Bled - Venice: free - https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/

So you can see: the full trip is possible with only your Interrail Pass plus EUR 8. And if you want to support railcc, buy your official Interrail pass in our partner (see blue bar bellow). Free delivery to the UK. Thank you. :)

It will be a bit more expensive if you want to use night trains - but not a lot as at the same time you save the money for a hostel. And night trains in Eastern Europe aren't expensive.

Oh... I just saw you want to include Croatia as well... missed it. Sorry. ;)
Then Budapest - Zagreb: free - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/budapest-to-zagreb

Cruse around in Croatia: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Zagreb - Ljubljana: free - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/zagreb-to-ljubljana
A lot of trains continue from Ljubljana in direction of Austria (Villach). Exit at Beld.

Peter :)
