Hello everyone,
my sister is about to do an Erasmus year in Karlstad, Sweden and I am thinking about visiting her.

However I checked the trains from Hamburg to Karlstad and was shocked that it takes such a long time, approx. 12 hours or more. Anyway I would really like to go up there by train and not by plane or bus - does anybody have a good idea how to get there cheaply and with a nice stop along the way? Preferable not stopping in Stockholm but maybe Gotheborg or another nice spot on the way? Scenic view appreciated 8)

Thank you =)

Hi,

well, I think that the best option would be to get an Europa Spezial Schweden from DB - this should be available on railcc soon. :)
You can get that ticket until Göteborg, from there you would need to use a regular ticket - I just checked on SJ site and one month in advance this would be around 18€ one way then.

With the Europa Spezial, you can make some stops in Sweden on the way to Göteborg as well - for instance in Malmö or Lund. :)
