Hi!

I'm heading out on my first InterRail trip on Tuesday. I had to leave later than the friends I'm going to be travelling with, but we plan on meeting up in Florence. I'm going to take a flight to Rome and then take a train from there.

The question I have is that I plan on taking an InterCity Plus train, and is that the same as an InterCity train in that it requires not reservation? Would you recommend making a reservation at the station anyway?

Hi,

there are no InterCity Plus trains in Italy anymore. On that route you can choose between the fast AV trains (10€ reservation) which run at least hourly and the less frequent semi-fast IC trains (3€ reservation recommended).

You can get both reservation at a station either at a counter or at a ticket machine (Global pass fare).

Thanks for the info! It helps a lot.

I guess the online train schedule planner I used to search for trains is a bit outdated, but I'll probably figure out which train to take once I'm there. Trains to Florence doesn't seem to be lacking :P

Do you know if the Sabina-Fiumicino line is valid with the InterRail pass? It's one of the trains one can take to leave the Fiumicino airport. I've tried seaching around without finding any conclusive answer.

I assume you are talking about the Roma Fiumicino Airport - Fara Sabina - Orte FR1 line? Yes, InterRail is valid on this line as well as on the other FR lines in the Rome area. :)
However, for the Airport Express Leonardo a supplement is payable - so simply use the FR1 trains and you dont have to pay anything extra.

So I just fill in my personal details and the journey details in the pass cover and then it's valid? Do I fill in the name of the cities or the name of the terminal stations? For example, do I fill in from Rome, to Rome or from Fiumicino Aeroporto, to Orte?

Yup.

When you order your pass (for example at the shop at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] ) you have to enter your name, passport/id card number and country of residence. These are then printed on your InterRail pass together with the chosen period of validity.
You then have to fill in the travel report that comes together with your IR pass before each journey: Departure and arrival station of each trip plus departure time. In this case I would write Roma Fiumicino and Orte. Or whatever station you leave at. Note that this has to be done before boarding the train (officially) but I usually do it on board.

No reservation or anything necessary for the FR1, right? :P
