Hi,

I'll be travelling in big cities generally but changes can happen along the way and I'm planning on camping in some places too. The question is, should I pick either a wheeled suitcase or a backpack? Can't I get one of those backpacks with wheels?

I see they are not common at all and it can't be because they don't exist, cuz they do. So what is their downside? A friend of mine guessed bad back support, non-adjustable height or so on but he was not not sure either.

And if I shouldn't buy one of them, which one should I get the wheeled suitcase or a backpack?

I'll be getting on my way soon so I have to take care of this quickly.

Waiting for your advice soon!

Thanks in advance.

Hej,

the only wheeled backpacks I know of have exactly these downsides your friend mentioned. Plus they all lack a decent hip belt which is supposed to make carrying easier and relieve your back.
I would either buy a decent backpack or a decent suitcase...if you are on a trip which includes at least a tiny bit of hiking/camping/outdoors I would recommend to go with a backpack...about 60 litres should be sufficient even for a month long trip. :)

yes-these wheeled things are not made for walking far. The wheels are often not firm and go off pretty soon. Germans (like the peter+flo here) often pay big attention to good-and thus very pricey rucksacks. I rather buy 3 that last shorter for less money as 1.
Decide if you mainly want to trek/walk with them or rather use the wheels (that are only effective on smooth surface-many cobbled streets and arilstation stairs are not) and then buy what fits to that.
AND take a look at width-that they fit into the normal side narrow aisles you still often find on Euro trains with side-compartments.

Umm, well, I believe that buying one rucksack in six years makes more sense than buying three or so...from an ecological point of view as regarding costs, comfort and durability.

And I only got problems with narrow aisles once...on the NS ICR coaches...

Yeah I thought this too, so I decided to buy a backpack ( without wheels ).

Thank you all

About this and because sometimes I have terrible back pain I'm thinking about bringing a small trolley (don't know what to call it) that folds and when I want I just have to put my bag on that attached with elastic straps that come with it and that's it...
Probably it will be about 1kg I think but I think will be worth it when we have to walk some distances...
