What's the prettiest part of Lake Como (that's close to a train stop)?
Are there hiking opportunities by the lake?

I've seen / heard much about it... Traveled past it last year and even in the rain & half-darkness it looked nice. :)

Humm, consider that Lago di Como is best served by railway on its eastern shore, the Milano - Tirano line is running here right through the small lakeside villages. I think Varenna could be a worthwile stop, from where you could also make a boat trip across the lake to Belaggio or Menaggio.
Apart from that, there is only the town of Como on the southwest end of the lake which is served by railway, the mainline to Switzerland. If you stop here you will have to use buses to travel further along the shore of the lake.
Dont know about hiking... :|
