As I type I'm currently sitting in Venice train station getting a bit annoyed. I been informed by numerous people who work for the Italian rail company There is no longer a service from Venice to Belgrade
The best alternative they can offer is a train to Trieste - a bus to Ljubijana ...and maybe (if I'm lucky) I can catch a train to Belgrade from there. It seems there is no service to Slovenia from Venice either and to make matters even worse they don't go into Austria via Venice :|

It appears from talking to locals this not a new thing so I wondered why this issued has not been raised on this forum sooner?

Hi.
It should be mentioned in several topics that the Italian railway seems not to be interested to be connected to Europe. Read also here: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/venice-belgrade-en-441/b-413/169

Best option is to get to Slovenia is via Gorizia to change Nova Gorica (using the bus in between). Detailed information and schedules: https://rail.cc/en/train/venice-to-ljubljana

Example with bus information: https://rail.cc/en/train/venice-to-ljubljana

Venice to Austria is possible by ÖBB bus to for example Villach. Reservation required.
