Hi,
Me and my girlfriend ( & maybe another couple) are looking at completing the below route in about 2 1/2 weeks. Flying into Krakow on the 07th July and out of Dubrovnik on the 25th of July. Would this be enough time to complete the below route? and also have enough time to see each of these cities? Looking at spending 2-3 nights in each location and hopefully travelling overnight.
Krakow - Budapest - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Spit - Sarajevo - Dubrovnik
In terms of accommodation what are the best options?
I would be very grateful for any advice on the above route.
Many Thanks,
John

Hi John.
This route is definitely possible within 2 1/2 weeks.
Things you have to think about:
- Sarajevo is in Bosnia-Herzegovina. No train access from Split.
- Dubrovnik: no train station.
- Split to Dubrovnik: no train connection (of course as there is no train station in Dubrovnik ;) )
- Ploce is in between of Split and Dubrovnik. There is a train connection from Zagreb via Sarajevo to Ploce.
The first part is clear:
Krakow - Budapest - Ljubljana - Zagreb - ...
If want, add Prague in between of Krakow and Budapest, you can use night trains on both connections.
And Budapest to Slovenia is also fine via Vienna.
In Slovenia reduce Ljubljana and add Lake Bled.
The second part (Split, Sarajevo, Dubrovnik) you have to plan, how you want to travel it. There are of course inexpensive bus services between these cities.
Direct night train available from Zagreb to Split.
Of course all this are my personal thoughts to give you some ideas. It will be too much to do everything (Prague, Lake Bled, ...) - but think about it what to add and what to skip.
Train connections are here (including the details to the night trains: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Accommodation - hostels are the best choice in bigger cities: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]
And if you like the railcc project, support it and purchase you train tickets on the recommended website. Thank you! :)
Peter :)

Hi Peter,
Thanks a million for the information. I will have to look into the actual time spent in each location much more closely but I think we will book the flights in and out and then work from there. I have been to Prague on a quick weekend break so will leave that off but Lake bled looks really beautiful and worth checking out. Is it worth going to Sarajevo and Spit or do you think the islands off Croatia would be more worth while?
In terms of booking trains is it better/cheaper to buy individual route tickets or to get an overall 22 day / 10 travel day pass? I suppose since we are using buses also we might probably won't make use of the 10 day travel pass.
Thank You,
John

Hi John...
I would recommend Sarajevo, but a personal opinion of me.
Concerning single point to point tickets - might be cheaper in total, but you have to calculate it by your own - check the websites of the Polish and Hungarian railway companies. They offer online booking or at least you can get an impression about the fares:
- Poland: [ux]https://rail.shop/pkpic[/ux]
- Hungary: [ux]https://rail.shop/mav[/ux]
- Croatian: [ux]https://rail.shop/hzpp[/ux]
