I'm going interrailing in Portugal for about 3 weeks in July. I know it's vague and everyone will be different, but I plan on staying in hostels and doing MOST of my own meals. How much would you recommend (in pounds or euros) to budget per day?

Hi.
My personal opinion is: the hostels are inexpensive in Portugal. As well supermarkets are cheap - at least not more expensive than anywhere else in Western Europe. I think you should do it easily with around EUR 30 per day - depends of course how much party you do at night and extras you need.
But maybe someone else has also experiences ?!?

Hej,

you should find very good hostels for about 20€ per day; if you cook your own meals you wont need more than 10€ a day for food, especially if you stay with classical student meals (pasta...) you wont need much money and have enough spare to get some coffee and delicious pastries... :)

Check http://microsites.juventude.gov.pt/Portal/en for hostels

You have lots of supermarkets.
Great food in Portugal.
