Hello, me and my partner are currently in Berlin ready to start our Interrail and have been looking at train journeys. We have a few questions... Our route is Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Bratislava - Budapest - Zagreb - Ljubljana - lake bled - Venice.

From Budapest to Zagreb the train journeys are very long most of which seem to be 12+ plus. Is this correct, we would be doing this trip in about 10 days time and didn't know if we should look at night trains. Or cut out going to Budapest even though everyone says its amazing?

Ljubana - lake bled - Venice. Is there a better train station to get off at as people have mentioned 'lescebled' and 'jezero'? Also the journey from Slovenia to Venice is 8 hours for quite a short Distance is this correct?

Thanks for your help, do you have a donations page? You have been very helpful through out this trip.

Hi Daisy.

Don't skip Budapest. It is really worth to stop there!
Better skip Zagreb or Ljubljana instead - this is my personal opinion even all towns have nice corners! :)

Budapest to Zagreb is ~ 6 hours by day train:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/budapest-to-zagreb

Lake Bled: the stations you mentioned are the only two ones to exit there.
One in the West (Jezero) and one in the East (Lesce). The first one is in my eyes the better one - but you reach everything there. Distances aren't as big. But coming from Ljubljana, you will exit in Lesce.

To travel from Bled to Venice, don't thrust these electronic schedule planers! As then are stupid machines! :)
Travel from Bled Jezero to Nova Gorica (at the border to Italy):
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/bled-to-nova-gorica
This journey is really amazing. :)

At Nova Gorica the train ends. Use the bus to cross the border to Gorizia (Italy) - 4 km.
There you have free and frequent regional trains to Venice (At least every hour).
An example is here (more connections of course available): https://rail.cc/en/interrail/ljubljana-to-venice

Have a sunny trip, Peter :)

Thanks that was very very helpful, we have changed a few of our destinations now, I have a few questions you may know.
Is 1 and a half days in lake bled enough?

Trains in Italy seem quick so we had though about going from Venice to la spezia (5 lands) quickly but it says it takes 5 hours again? Is this like previous question where we should not trust online train time tables.

Last question but a big one, after Barcelona we have 12 days to get back the uk. Is there anywhere you can recommend south of France to go for a day or 2 for beaches and swimming. A few I have looked at don't have hostels near by.

Thanks for being so helpful.

ONLY superfast on the hi-speed lines, for this route you have to cross 2 mountain ranges and thats never quick-plus its indirect, so takes many changes. You can trust online if you know how to use them and what failures there may be in-thats the expertise.

Hi Daisy.

Note: not all schedules are online for Italy due to the change in the schedules at the beginning of June. But no worries: there won't be big changes.
https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route

You can trust the online schedule planers, but like nltrainer said, you have to know how to use them. Often tricky to find the best solutions for Interrailers.

Lake Bled: I recommend at least 2 nights, that's my personal opinion.

By the way as it just got in my mind: you can also stop at Lake Balaton in Hungary.

Think about (only if it is not too much for you) Barcelona - Madrid - Lisbon - night train to Hendaye, then the Atlantic sea around Bordeaux. Example here: https://rail.cc/en/arcachon/c

If you want to go along the coast of Southern-France, you can stop nearly everywhere - to be honest, I don't remember exactly - but had often stops there and it was always okay. Often camp sites offer full equipped tents or such a kind of mobile homes - no need to carry your own tent.

And don't forget, if you like the railcc project, support it and buy your official rail pass at the railcc shop. Thank you! :)

Peter :)
