I am planning to Interrail for the first time this summer. I haven't planned a route yet as I was thinking of deciding spontaneously where I want to go and how long to stay in each city. What is the best way to go about accommodation? Can I check in spontaneously into hotels/hostels without a prior reservation or do I need to book in advance?

Hi,

many hostels always keep some beds free for travellers who turn up spontaneously so in general it is no problem to just show up and ask for a room. However, consider that during peak season especially in tourist hot spots such as Amsterdam or Paris it can happen that hostels are fully booked, especially those who have good ratings on sites as hostelworld.
It is a god idea to have a look at several hostels in each city before you go and carry a list with their adresses with you - then you can check each hostel when you arrive and dont have to search long.
