Hi Tom.
As you don't talk about the countries you travel to, I simply forward you to the overall calculator:
https://rail.cc/en/overall-costs
Using hostels and cooking by yourself is in average 30-50 Euro per day. More expensive in the West, less expensive in the East.
We have several topics about the money you need here at the forum as well about backpack sizes. I always recommend 65l. Should be fine for 3-4 weeks.

Hey me and my friends are going for 24 days so I'm kinda in the same boat. We've already booked all our accommodation and and including the 10/22 day rail pass that came to £457 for 23 nights of accommadation. I plan on spending roughly £1000 for the entire trip. so £1000-457 = 543. Then £543 is basically my spending money for the entire trip which equates to about £20 a day. Which is enough for nights out, eating, reservations etc in my opinion.
I would highly recommend booking accomadation before hand unless you have the money for the security to pay high prices if necessary. Plus with booking in advance you know you've got a bed for the night and don;t have to waste time in the city looking for hostels etc.

Hi.
So you have the Interrail pass 10 in 22 for GBP 227 including delivery ( https://rail.cc/en/interrail-global-pass ) and GBP 230 for 23 nights of accommodation. Good deal as you only spent GBP 10 per night. :)
I think you have to find the best way for yourself between booking in advance and get the best prices or booking only one night in advance before arriving in the new city, but stay a bit more flexible.
And GBP 20 per day to spent on food, beer, etc should be enough. Supermarkets are Interrailers best friend - don't spent money on fast food companies. :)
Often hostels offer kitchen you can use for free!

I think we're basically just going to buy a baguette each with some meat or jam and just do that most days which should save costs. Breakfast grab some cereal/toast at the hostel and then a pasta and meat dish for a lot of the nights. So I reckon we can get about 10 out the £20 pounds a day for sightseeing and going out :D

Hi Odbale,
How have you managed to get 22 days accomodation for 230 pounds?
I have been looking in quite a few places but most seem to cost more than 10 pound a night.
Regards
Chief

Sorry this is a bit late. My information was a little off. We've booked for around 19 days of accommodation I think and are planning on 4/5 night trains. Our average is probably closer to 13/14 pounds a night. This is low due to Hostels in Krakow which is like £5 a night and we aren't staying in the centre of Amsterdam when we go there but about half an hour outside of it. I would recommend a trade-off between price and rating of the Hostel, going off Hostelworlds reviews. E.g the Krakow hostel is £5 a night but still has 90% rating :D

And if you book via this link: http://railcc.hostelworld.com , for you the prices are the same - but railcc gets a little commission to keep this forum running. Thank you. :)

Sorry I didn't know that. If I had we would've obviously booked through that link :/
