I have interrailed twice before and, in most countries, one can work with (and around) the restrictions and plan a supplement-free journey most of the time. However, in Italy, it has often been difficult to get anywhere faster than a donkey cart without paying a supplement or reservation fee, but I managed. Now, with the increase in privatised railways, though, a more serious obstacle keeps presenting itself: I can't even work out whether my ticket will be valid at all.
** Domodossola-Locarno with F.A.R.T., a wonderful line, carries quite a few doubts but more people say Interrail is valid on it than say it isn't. F.A.R.T. do not reply to my emails, though. However, it's not one of the listed railway operators on railcc, so that naturally makes me more nervous.
** Fortezza - San Candido is a mystery. I like the OBB website best for train info on virtually all of Europe and, according to it, on weekdays in May, the 16.50 and 17.51 are operated by SAD and I presume Interrail is not valid. However, the 17.20 is not shown as a SAD working and may therefore be a Trenitalia train. Is that true, and would I be unwise in assuming, therefore, that Interrail is valid on the 17.20, do you think?
** And then we come back to Trenord, Milano Centrale to Tirano, which apparently has undertaken to accept Interrail, but in my email exchanges with them have twice said that Interrail is NOT valid, and have given no hint that the situation is about to change.
Can anyone change the signal to green on any of the above? And what other Italian pitfalls has anyone discovered?

Hej!
FART: InterRail is valid! Thanks for pointing out that it is not yet listed on the website, I will fix that. :)
SAD: InterRail is valid! In Southern Tyrol trains are either operated by SAD or Trenitalia, however you can hop on any of these. :)
TreNord: :P I have been in contact with the EuRail Group and they told me that InterRail should be made officially valid on TreNord at short notice...and until that, conductors are instructed to accept InterRail tickets. Anyway, there has not been any official info yet... I would just use the Tirano service and in case you get troubles complain at EuRail Group and argue that the line is included on the official IR map that comes with your ticket... ;)
Apart from these three exceptions, InterRail is only valid on Trenitalia services in Italy.

Hello Flo,
Three Greens, nearly enough to start a Formula One race. I'll do a google translate of your Trenord comment into Italian and carry it with me, as my Italian is barely up to ordering a pizza in a pizzeria!
Many thanks for your quick reply and for the good news it brings.
