Paris-Amsterdam-Berlin-Prague-Vienna-Budapest-Split-Venice
Hi,
So me and two other girls are in the middle of planning an interailing trip for 3 weeks in August. We have booked flights to Paris for the start of the trip, and booked accommodation for most of our destinations.
One thing we really need a bit of help with is the Budapest - Split - Venice part of the trip!!
So far, from this website we think we can get an overnight train only on the Tuesday night from Budapest to split without any stopovers....is this correct? if it is then that's pretty simple.
But then we can't find a way of getting from Split to Venice...could you pretty please give us some advice on this??
Thankyou,
Joanna

Hej Joanna,
Budapest - Split: The direct night train is mainly aimed at Hungarian tourists and often fully booked. However you have to alternative connections :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/budapest-to-split
Split - Venice: This is a bit complicated. The best thing to do is to go to Zagreb overnight, then to Ljubljana - Sezana - Nova Gorica; across the twin town to the Italian station of Gorizia, then to Venice.
Or, from Sezana by bus across the border to Villa Opicina, then with tramway to Trieste and by train to Venice.
Just ask if you need more details.

PS: It'd be nice if you'd support our work by purchasing your tickets from our partner, thank you. :)

Aaah that does sound VERY complicated...Would that journey take up more than one of our 10 journeys from the ticket?
Are there any other places you could recommend for us instead of Split? We want to spend around 3 or 4 days somewhere where we can just relax in the sun and be near a beach. It also needs to be pretty accessible from Budapest and easy to get to Venice from too.
Your help is really appreciated

Hej Joanna,
it is possible if you make use of the 1900 rule for night trains :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
Split 2118 - 0626 Zagreb
Zagreb 0650 - 1047 Villach West
Walk from Villach West to Villach Hbf, enough time to have a look around the old town and get an ice cream or so :)
Villach Hbf 1256 - 1625 Venezia Tronchetto :arr: InterCity Bus, 9€ reservation required
This would be the most convenient option, however, you need a reservation for the InterCity Bus, which should be able to get outside Austria, but I cant guarantee it.
However, you would have this interesting alternative, which I was talking about above. ;)
Split 2118 - 0626 Zagreb
Zagreb 0650 - 0909 Ljubljana
Ljubljana 1210 - 1357 Sezana
Sezana 1430 - 1522 Nova Gorica
Walk across the twin city to the Italian station of Gorizia Centrale
Gorizia 1620 - 1640 Monfalcone
Monfalcone 1707 - 1849 Venezia Santa Lucia
This is a classic InterRail route, might look a bit complicated but certainly is rather adventurous and fun. ;)
You will have the same troubles with any other city in Slovenia or Croatia to get to Venice, be it Split, Zadar, Rijeka or Pula...
Still, what you could do is to take the direct summer night train from Budapest to Koper and stay in the Piran area (from Koper to Piran by bus, as well as then from Koper to Trieste by bus, then by train to Venezia).

One last question....is it possible to book the intercity bus from Villach Hbf to Venezia online before we leave?
