Hi there,
I\'m planning an 11 day trip around Italy!
First of all, I just wanted to know whether an InterRail One-Country pass is good value or not, as opposed to just pre-booking and paying for each train journey individually.
I fly to ROME (2 nights there), then get the train down to NAPLES and visit POMPEII and RAVELLO (spending 2 nights down there)..
Then, I\'d like to get an OVERNIGHT TRAIN from NAPLES to MILAN, (on the way to travelling further up north to STRESA, to visit the BORROMEAN ISLANDS etc (2 nights up there)) - I\'d really like to know: is this overnight train route possible? I realise that a Milan to Naples overnight is possible, but is it possible the other way around?
From there, we\'d catch the train back down to the FLORENCE area (staying in LUCCA and visiting PISA - 2 nights).
And finally, VENICE for the last 2 nights (flying back from there).
Thanks! :)

Hej!
ICN 1910
Napoli Cle 2027 - 0655 Milano Cle

Standard fare for a 4bed couchette is 98€; in comparison the reservation for InterRail costs 33€, plus the costs for one travel day (ranging from 41€ to 25€ for Youths, depending on which ticket you purchase (3, 4, 6 or 8 days).
However, if you are fine with pre-booked tickets with limited possibilities for exchange or refund you will find cheaper tickets as well.
In general, as you are travelling rather short distances (except for Napoli - Milano) I think you might be better off with regular tickets.

Hi Flo!
Thank you so much for your reply! Just to fill in a few of the details..
- There will be two of us travelling, so we were hoping to get a two-bed couchette (I realise this probably counts as a '1st Class' ticket?) as it's always been a dream of mine!
- We're both under 25 and plan to get (a 6-day) Youth ticket each.
So just to briefly go over the itinerary again:
- ROME to NAPLES
- NAPLES to MILAN (then on to STRESA)
- STRESA to FLORENCE (then on to LUCCA and PISA)
- LUCCA to VENICE
Does this favour the InterRail pass or booking individual train trips?
Thank you so much again! :)

Hi Rebecca...
Just to simplify... just fill in your journeys on the Trenitalia website. Then you will see the exact prices.
And compare it to the Interrail One Country Pass ( https://rail.cc/en/interrail-pass-italy ) plus the extra fees if required (night train, AVE, ...): https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
It is the same procedure we have to do as well... :)

Hi Rebecca,
regarding the night train: With a 2nd class IR ticket you can only use 4bed couchette or 3bed sleeper; for 2bed or 1bed sleeper accomodation you would need a 1st class ticket.
Anyway, it is definitely a nice thing to do, so I recommend to go with the 3bed sleeper.

Why would you get a ticket for 6days? You would only need for travel days for your route? Or are the trips to Lucca and Pisa day trips from Firenze? If it is so, you could also think of getting a 4days pass for the longer trips and go to Lucca and Pisa from Firenze with regular tickets.

Hi Peter and Flo,
Thank you very much for your replies! :)
Peter: thank you for those web links - that's just what I needed!
Flo: I had a feeling that was the case about the 2nd class ticket not enabling us to buy a 1st class couchette. Never mind, would just have to go with the 3 bed sleeper like you say!
Regarding the 6-day pass, it would be because following the overnight train journey, that would take us on to another separate day when we travel up to Stresa. So in actual fact a 5-day pass would be best, but I guess we'd have to buy a 6-day pass as there's no in-between!
Thanks so much again :)

Hej,
you just need 4 travel days as you can make use of the 1900 rule for night trains :)
