I know alot of the longer trains around require compulsory reservation of a seat, what is the minimum time i need to reserve before departure? Would I be ok to book my seat the previous day or even afew hours before the train is due to depart? :|

you can do it even some hours before you jump into the train. it depends. but on most railway companies you do not make your reservation one day before (but it is better!!) ... :)
and if it is not a real reservation, only a supplement (with no guarantee for a seat), you can do it even 10 minutes before your train leaves. :)

During April I plan to interrail between Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Is there any way that I can make my reservations in advance on any of these journies?
