Hi Josh.

For a route trough the Baltics have a look at our blog - an extensive report with all details you need: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-in-the-baltics-with-train-bus-and-ferry/

As the Baltics are not included in Interrail, you have to do it by standard tickets - or by bus as well. It is not very expensive! :)

Concerning Eastern Europe. It depends on how much you want to travel. If you go down to Istanbul, then an Interrail pass might be worth. Think about travelling the Baltics on normal tickets or bus and then continue by 10 in 22 Interrail pass.
Except if you want to travel every day.

Do you have a rough idea where you want to stop in Eastern Europe?

Baltics - Warsaw - Berlin - Prague - Krakow - Budapest - Bucharest - Istanbul - Sofia - Belgrade - Macedonia / Croatia / Slovenia ...?!?

Peter :)

Peter thanks for the quick reply mate,

I would like to travel for 30 days, what do you think would be a good amount to travel? I want to pack as much in the time but also enjoy as we go along. Route wise i am very open to where we go but we want to go to places were we can party hard (and reasonably cheap) but also do adventure activities like caving and camping! I would like to maybe visit Croatia, Slovakia, Estonia and Slovenia potentially. What do you think? Or i dont mind going on a more adventitious trip to places people dont really go! Help me Peter! Thanks buddy

Think about the route I gave you...

Baltics - Warsaw - Berlin - Prague - Krakow - Budapest - Bucharest - Istanbul - Sofia - Belgrade - Montenegro - along the coast of Croatia (some inexpensive steps by bus) - Dubrovnik - Split - Zagreb - Ljubljana - Lake Bled

Of course you can skip some of the stops. :)

I usually recommend 3 nights in one place. Of course you can stay less if you just want to rush trough.
Good for parties are definitely: Berlin, Prague, Krakow, Budapest and Istanbul ... all others as well.
The best is to ask directly the hostel staff about good party locations. Or join a pub crawl.
A good solution for you should also be larger hostels where you will meet more travellers to join for a party-night.
:)

Hi Flo,

thank you for the excellent reply. Have you been to any of the places you mentioned? In this part of europe(eastern/baltics) is it cheaper to buy the interrail globalpass for £370 or buy individual tickets for a 4 week experience.

Hej,

unfortunately I havent been to Eastern Europe much yet, from the places on that list I only have been to Lake Bled and Postojna but all those places are definitely on my to do list. ;)

Regarding the ticket options. The baltics are not included in InterRail. However, train travel is rather cheap there although the network is not very dense so you could easily find yourself on buses instead. But is definitely nice to go there by train as well. ;)
What are you plans on how to get to Eastern Europe from home? Do you want to make a real trip and go there all the way by train (much more exciting in my opinion) or do you want to fly there and only travel by train in Eastern Europe?
In the latter case it should turn out cheaper to go by standard train tickets, especially if you do not cover long distances.
If you decide to travel from the UK to Eastern Europe by train the InterRail pass should be the most convenient option.

Hi Flo,

I live in England so I assumed that I would just fly out to somewhere in eastern europe and fly back at the end of the 4 weeks, I never thought about traveling across europe via train. That sounds like an epic adventure though? No aircraft just trains! But if i bought the interrail pass I would still have to buy a eurostar to paris/brussels as that is not included. The problem i still havnt decided on my route yet buddy just narrowed it down to eastern europe and maybe baltics! how did you find Postojna? Good stuff?

Hej,

well dont have to use Eurostar, you can also take either Dover - Calais or Harwich - Hook van Holland ferries (the latter even grants reduction for InterRailers). Or some cheap bus connection through the Channel. Even Eurostar can be rather cheap if you book early.
And well, isnt InterRail all about epic adventures? And going all the way by train definitely contributes to that. You could for instance go to Amsterdam first, then with a night train to Warszawa (or make a stop in Berlin) and you are already quite far in Eastern Europe. While in Poland you could even take a ride with a scheduled steam train, on the lines around Wolsztyn. :D
Then via Krakow to Praha - Budapest - Bucuresti - ... ??? So many possibilities...you do not have to have a completely fixed route, just go where you feel you should go to. Maybe you meet other travellers who tell you about that nice beach or that nice little village somewhere...just hop on the train and go! ;)

Postojna Cave...well, they are nice but rather touristy. But definitely worth a visit if you are in that area. And the railway station is nearby.
