My friends and I are going to travel across Europe on trains. I have done a lot of research however I'm still confused on how to make train reservations especially regarding night trains. Whilst on the Bahn website, making a reservation for a night train there was no option to select a discount for interrail tickets meaning we would have to pay the full price even though we have an interrail pass.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It departs Amsterdam Central on the 27th of June at 20:31 and arrives in Munich at 07:16 on the 28th.

Also how do you make reservations for international trains? On the bahn website it says you are not able to just make a reservation unless you buy the ticket for international trains. I have checked this website too but we are not planning taking any of the trains suggested on here.

Hi,

this is a CNL train; read the guideline for making online reservations for CNL here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/amsterdam-munich-cnl419/11

In general, the common way to make reservations for any trains is at a railway station. You can get reservations for all domestic services as well as international trains to/from the particular country, moreover it is usually possible to get reservations for many other European countries as well (note: you cannot make reservations for mainland Europe from the UK).
Within Germany, you do not need any reservations at all. On international connections to/from Germany you need reservations only when going to France with TGV Alleo, Italy with the DB ÖBB EC via the Brenner route and the Berlin Warszawa Express EC trains as well when travelling with CNL or EN (night trains).
For a general overview on which trains require reservations, have a look here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

Hi,

no problem, if you have other particular questions just ask.

Apart from making reservations at stations you can make reservations as well online or via phone in some countries. If this is possible it is usually described in the details of the train category (example :arr: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/frecciargento/49 or the CNL above). :)

Hey, I'm experiencing a bit of trouble. I'm trying to book a CNL-train from Copenhagen to Amsterdam and will be traveling with an Interrail-pass so I'll be getting a reduction on the price. I've been following the guide that was linked here and that's where the problem arises. I get to step 6 all fine and dandy but once I'm supposed to click the Book only extra charge-button in order to choose the Pass-option I notice that that particular button is nowhere to be found. Book selected offer is the only button on the bottom. Am I missing something or is the Interrail Pass-option just not available for this train in question? Thanks.

Hi,

this is due to the fact either departure or arrival (or both) stations have to be in Germany. For this route I recommend to book the reservation until Duisburg. Then there are two options:
a) You explain your situation to the conductor and ask him that you can stay on the train - this should not be a problem since the price for the reservation is the same for all relations and Duisburg is exit only
b) You leave the train in Duisburg and take a ICE to Amsterdam which leaves about half an hour later. No reservation needed and you would arrive half an hour earlier in Amsterdam.

All this should be explained here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de

Thanks so much! Was really confused over it all since I didn't understand that either destination has to be in Germany. Now I know the problem at least and can take that into consideration upon making plans. Thanks again!

Edit: Corrected myself.

Ok, so JeZZef is my travelling companion, and we have another question!

a bit of topic perhaps:

What would the price for 2 passengers be on the Duisburg-Amsterdam part of the journey?

As i understand it, InterRailers only pay the seat reservation fee, not the entire ticket. Entire ticket on this leg is 38€/guy.

Hej,

the reservation prices for the CNL Kobenhavn - Amsterdam are here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/copenhagen-amsterdam-cnl-40473/13
Duisburg - Amsterdam would be a regular ICE for which no reservation is required :arr: https://rail.cc/en-type-country/intercityexpress/db-ice/11
