Hi,
I would like to get to Venice from Lucerne. The fare that I checked from sbb.ch is 121CHF one way.
I am wondering if this fare is the same if I buy it from the counter?
Is there any alternative that comes in a cheaper fare?
Thanks,
Winnie

Hi Winnie.
In general the internet sales are the cheapest option. At least: you won't get it cheaper at a ticket counter (service fee?) - maybe the same price.
It often depends on the pre-booking time in internet: as earlier, as cheaper.
You can also try the railcc shop... compare it and buy it where you find the cheaper price:

for THIS connection the www may fail-as you have to know how ''ticket split'' works-you have to buy separetely for the 3 legs. A railccconnoisseur like peter should know that and be able to help how to. In fact it most likely is FAR better to only buy to Milano and buy the IT ticket separate-for the train you want. IT now has complicated rules for on what trains tickets are valid.
At the counter the price is the same- but I think in CH they now also want a 5 CHF ''service fee'' for International tickets (dont know exactly for that types). In fact it MAy (=not will) be alittle lower, if the CHF rises further against the EUR-every month they reset the exchange rates.

My fault... of course it is cheaper to split like nltrainer said.
Luzern - Milano: Sparpreis of SBB (=special offer) from CHF 23 (= EUR 19) - www.sbb.ch
Milano - Venezia: MINI fare of Trenitalia for EUR 29 - www.trenitalia.com
If you order early (special price tickets are in most cases not refundable), you can do this trip for EUR 48 in total.

Hi Peter,
Warm greetings from Malaysia.
I'm travelling from Lucerne to Venice (via Milan) on April 10. However, I couldn't get the special offer of CHF 23 at sbb.com. Today is Sunday, is the special fare only for sale/reserved on weekday? Pls help.

Hi Nicole.
Special offer is a very limited number of discounted tickets. You have to book them several weeks in advance. If they are sold out, you will have to purchase standard tickets.
Therefore rail passes like Eurail are cheaper than buying always standard tickets. But it depends on your route, if you only travel from A to B or if you are having a round trip in Europe.
Have sunny travel days, Peter :)
