Hi guys!
Me and my girlfriend are planning a new trip to the balkans, this time Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania. We'll have around 3 weeks, may more, to do it.
The thing is, what to see? We'll probably start in Plovdiv, since I've been eyeing some really cheap connections at that time of the year (june/july). Then Sofia would follow. From there, I was thinking of something like Bor - Belgrade - Novi Sad - and here I got tangled... Subotica, Timisoara and Arad seem nice but I'd like to go till Bucharest, with one stop or two in the romanian countryside.
Is anything like this doable? How are trains and rails there? Are buses a good alternative?
Other options are excluding some of these locations and go till Moldova or pass by Kosovo. Is is worth it?
Hoping to get some opinions,
Paulo

Been searching and reasoning a bit more and got to this, maybe too ambitious, plan:
Day 1: Oporto - Plovdiv
Day 2: Plovdiv - Sofia
Day 3: Sofia
Day 4: Sofia - Bor
Day 5: Bor
Day 6: Bor - Belgrade
Day 7 & 8: Belgrade
Day 9: Belgrade - Novi Sad
Day 10: Novi Sad - Timisoara
Day 11: Timisoara
Day 12: Timisoara - Sibiu
Day 13: Sibiu - Sighisoara
Day 14: Sighisoara - Brasov
Day 15: Brasov - Bucharest
Day 16 & 17: Bucharest
Day 18: Bucharest - Chisinau
Day 19: Chisinau - Odessa
Day 20: Odessa
Day 21/22: Odessa - Oporto
I know it might sound a lot but I did Istanbul + Thessloniki + Skopje + Ohrid + Tirana + Budva + Dubrovnik + Hvar + Zagreb + Ljubljana + Milan, 2 years ago, in 21 or 22 days, and I don't regret it at all.
What do you think? Anything I shouldn't be missing? How are the means of transportation? Comparable to the Western Balkans?
Hoping to get some suggestions,
Paulo

I guess you fly RYAN in+out?
Then IR is a waste of money for this route. Use balkan Flexi-or pay as you go. That may also allow you to visit many much more interesting towns by bus etc. There is NOTHING to see/do in Bor. PLus that in Serbije often trains do not run at all-train ''broke'' and if they do-are hours late.

Thanks for your reply!
I didn't buy any ticket last time for the same reason.
Lake Bor was my idea... Isn't it worth it?
What about the rest of the route? Is it ok? Am I missing anything I shouldn't?
Thanks
