Does anyone think that it might be a better to purchase a first class Interail ticket. I have read on this site that on TGV trains seats can be limited for Interail ticket holders. Would there be a better chance of securing a seat reservation with a first class ticket, as I imagine there could be more seats available. Thanks, Liam :)

Hej Liam,

I would not get a 1st class IR ticket just because of possible better availability of TGV reservations. I do not know if the allotment for IR travelers is divided on 1st or 2nd class or not...
However, if it happens that you do not get a reservation for your TGV, there is always the possibility of a Abo Forfait 2eme reservation...although not 100% official it usually is accepted by the staff as they know how hard it is for InterRailers to get a reservation sometimes. I just recently used such a reservation for a Paris - Nancy TGV without problems. :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/tgv-sncf/42

In general, 1st class usually offers better comfort and more space than 2nd class, especially in Middle and Western Europe where you will often get extras such as welcome drinks, newspapers etc...however, for some trains reservation costs will be significantly higher, for instance in Sweden and Spain :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train-type/sweden/se :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train-type/france/fr
