Hi :)
I am going travelling round europe for the 2nd time this summer in june/july and am needing some help finding out if its possible to do this route! Probably not going to get an interrail pass as its more eastern europe and i have heard its cheaper to just pay for travel. So for the first part of the trip I am flying to dubrovnik and then would like to visit kotor in montenegro, then sarajevo, then go up to plitvice national park back in croatia. From then on its more major cities so I think I'll be alright, but was not sure if this first bit is feasible at all?
Thanks so much!!

Hi Sarah,
of course this is feasible, although you will have to rely on buses mostly. Sarajevo is the only place of those mentioned which is on the railway network.
In which order to visit the places depends on your subsequent route - do you have any ideas yet?

HI, thanks for the super quick reply!!
Yeah after that the plan is to go to ljubljana (from which i would like to go to lake bled), budapest, prague, berlin, amsterdam and then fly home from there. Yeah i only took trains when i went interrailing last time so not sure how the buses all work!!

Humm...how long have you planned to travel? Maybe a 5in10 Global Pass could fit for the trip from Lake Bled until Amsterdam?
At the beginning of your trip, I would recommend this route:
Dubrovnik - Kotor by bus
a)
Kotor - Mostar by bus
Mostar - Sarajevo by train
b)
Kotor - Sarajevo by bus
Sarajevo - Zagreb by train
Zagreb - Plitvice - Zagreb by bus

Zagreb - Ljubljana - Lake Bled by train
Then you could do the rest of the trip with a 5in10 as suggested above - depends of course on how long you want to travel overall.
Regarding bus travel...it is usually well organised and the bus terminals are easy to find (only in Sarajevo when arriving from Montenegro it is quite far from the centre).

thankyou so much!! thats really really useful :) planning to travel for 25 days (flights booked already so thats set), so yeah the 5 in 10 would actually work really well! Do you reckon thats good value for money then?
Thanks again!!

Well...compared to regular prices you will be cheaper off with the 5in10€, as Praha - Berlin - Amsterdam alone is already ~140€. With pre-purchased special offers it might be about the same or a little cheaper although you then are fixed on a certain train.
For any further questions just ask. :)

Well...standard fares in Middle and Western Europe are rather high. However, if you book early, you can get rather cheap fares but these are usually for one specific connection only and not exchangeable. For instance, you could get Praha - Berlin and Berlin - Amsterdam each as cheap as 39€ if booked well in advance: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
But then travelling gets similar to flying - you know weeks in advance when to take which train... ;)
