Hej,
your route looks quite good already. Visiting Dresden on your way to Prag is a good idea, what you might have to change is the Budapest - Ljubljana leg. The daily Budapest - Venezia night train has been withdrawn last december, however during the summer a Budapest - Ljubljana - Pula train is supposed to run, although not daily. If you dont get the night train you can alternatively travel during the day.
Regarding Plitvice and Lake Bled...Plitivce indeed is hard to get by train, better to take a bus (https://rail.cc/en/plitvice-lakes/train/c) if you want to go there - but these are not included in InterRail. What might be a better idea overall is to go Budapest - Zagreb, then to Zadar and Plitvice and then to Ljubljana. From Ljubljana to Lake Bled and then to Venezia.
Currently there are no cross border trains SI <> IT. Your options are:
a) Lake Bled - Nova Gorica by train, then to the Italian part of the town to Gorizia Centrale station and to Trieste or Venezia from there
b) Lake Bled - Nova Gorica - Sezana by train, then by bus or on foot (~4km) to Villa Opicina in Italy, then by tramway down to Trieste. From there by train to Venezia.
As accomodation in Venezia can be quite expensive you could think of staying longer in Verona and visiting Venezia only during the day. From Verona, best way to Salzburg is via Innsbruck.
If you have more questions just let me know. And if you want to support railcc we would be happy if you'd purchase your IR passes via our partner. Thank you. :)

Thanks a lot! So then Budapest - Zagreb - Zadar and Plitvice - Ljubljana - venice it is.. We are still figuring out which trains would be best.. Is Zagreb worthwile visiting at all? Or worth staying a night (we kind of have to go through Zagreb to get further south in Croatia).
And any ideas on Budapest? Who knows the places to go to here?

Hej,
well, for Budapest - Zagreb have a look here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/budapest-to-zagreb
Then to Zadar :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/zagreb-to-zadar
If you then want to go to Plitvice it is best to take the bus right from Zadar, then as well Plitvice - Zagreb from where you can take the train again.
Zagreb is certainly worth a short stay, if needed as well overnight. If you arrive from Budapest in the afternoon you can spend the rest of the day in Zagreb, spend the night there and continue to Zadar the following morning. If you have a look at the link above there is only one good connection Zagreb - Zadar by train, other possibilities would require an overnight trip with either changing in Knin very early (4am) or waiting in Knin several hours for the connection to Zadar.
Budapest? You can easily spend two or three days there. Visit the castle area on the Buda side, then go to one of the thermal spas (Gellert is my favourite). Visit the old market old across the Gellert on the other side of the Danube, have a coffee at Cafe Gerbaud, Cafe New York or Cafe Ruszwurm. :)
