Hi All
Two of us are planning a 3 week trip in June.
I would much appreciate any advice on which type of ticket to travel on; originally we had planned to use a 10 in 22, however I wondered if some of the travel may be cheaper just to buy as we go...
Bratislava-2 nights
Vienna-2 nights
Budapest-3 nights
Belgrad-3 nights
Bosnia-4 nights (staying with family)
Zagreb-2 nights
Bled-4 nights
Venice-2 nights
If you can suggest any smaller towns enroute worth a visit, or if we are planning to spend too long/little in one place.
Any advice is much appreciated, Thanks :)

Hi.
If you want, you could add an extra loop like:
Bratislava - Vienna - Prague - Krakow - Budapest then go on like you told.
For Bratislava to Vienna don't spent a travel day. There are cheap buses running this route (~ EUR 10 if I remember right). Or also inexpensive single train tickets. Let your Interrail ticket start then in Vienna.

buying an IR for THIS route is a waste of money. Either some buses or locally bought point to point will work out cheaper. Save even more by trying to avoid crossborder tickets for long ways. If you add PL/Krkow it might make sense.
I am independent, do not do any sales nor have any profit from it and only want to point out ways to save money. Esp for East-Europeans on a tight purse-have some long liking for these souls who know more of common sense.
BP-BG is just 16 eur single-special price ONLY in those towns. other sectors comparable. Often-strange how it seems, a return is-due to special pricing, cheaper as the full fare single too.

Hi
Thanks for your advice guys :)
Wanted to avoid busy poland due to euro 2012, also they are both fab and on reasonable cheap flights paths so should be good for a long weekend again sometime, would love to see some rarer places on this trip.
Nltrainer - i don't quite understand what you mean by this?
Save even more by trying to avoid crossborder tickets for long ways.
Thanks again for the help :)

Hi
This is our plan:
Bratislava - Vienna 14:30 - boat if this is a pleasant trip?
Vienna - Budapest 11:54
Budapest - Belgrade night train 22:20
Belgrade - Sarajevo - bus as this is quickest?
Sarajevo - Mostar 7:05 return 18:43 is this too long to spend in Mostar?
Sarajevo - Zagreb 21:27
Zagreb - Ljub 12:30
Ljub - Bled 18:57
Bled to Ljub 6:20
Ljub - Sezana 8:12
Walk/bus across border - unless there is a better route from Lake Bled to Venice?
Trieste - Venice 14:56
I know picking the trains we wish to travel on is pretty rigid, but its just to get an idea of whether we would need reservations/supplements. Which i have tried looking for but keep getting myself rather confused (apologies)
I'm pretty sure we will be getting the 10 in 22, probably will use 7 or 8 days travel..
any info anyone can add is much appreciated!
Thanks :)

Hej,
looks like a nice route but it seems that you will be better off with regular tickets as distances are rather short and prices in Eastern Europe are relatively low.
From Bled, take a train from Bled Jezero (not Lesce Bled on the main line to Ljubljana) via the famous Wochein Railway to Nova Gorica, there, cross the town on foot to the Italian station of Nova Gorica from where you can proceed to Venezia.

PS: Bratislava - Wien by boat is nice :)

Hi Flo
Great thanks for the speedy response :)
i have been reading that perhaps is best to buy single tickets, i just couldnt find prices online as they mostly say unavailable or seem expensive so i must be looking for the wrong thing! in which case, will we just have to buy in the stations? slightly worried about language barrier, but its an adventure!

Hi,
I've tried again to look for prices and Vienna-Budapest is coming up as £92, I'm sure another has come up as £100+ before, I must be looking at the wrong thing? It just seems point to point tickets could end up more expensive if I'm not careful.
Really appreciate your help
Thanks :)

Where did you look?
In general it will be sufficient to buy the tickets at the stations as you go. :)

Hi Flo
I have been using the links advised on the ticket section of this website, which take me to various different providers, but all the point to point routes i put in seem to bring back expensive tickets.

OK, if bought directly at the train stations in Hungary, Serbia,... etc tickets will be cheaper. ;)
For instance, Budapest - Belgrad only 15€ with Belgrad Special of MAV (available at MAV stations in Hungary only) or Belgrad - Sarajevo with Sarajevo Special of ZS in Belgrad only 16,80€...
