So, after thoroughly researching everything, I just realized I missed one tiny detail: our global Eurail Pass does NOT cover Poland and we've planned to go to Krakow. Does anyone know how we can use our pass to save some money (well, really just not pay twice) and still get to Krakow? I read on one site that you can buy tickets on the train at the Czech border to complete a journey to Krakow (we'll be coming from Prague). Does anyone know if this will work or have any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, just get a ticket from Zebrzydowice(Gr) (border station CZ<>PL) to Krakow at the station in Praha. In addition you will need a reservation for the train Praha - Katowice (3€). The ticket should be 16,60€ one way.
Make sure you get the ticket via Katowice, and not via Oswiecim (the direct way) since you have to go to Katowice with the direct EC from Praha to change there to Krakow.

in general it works like this: it has nothing to do with what is written on trains or companies.
it is indeed BORDERS that define the tariff. It is simply the sum of the national fares inthe countries concerend- with EU the CZ part is covered. So you have to get a ticket that covers the section borderpoint-destination. This is an INTERnational ticket and can be bought ANYwhere in Europe where they sell INTERnational tickets. It is in general highly advisable to buy it beforehand-as on the train the price will be higher and you likely have to pay in PLN=zloties, which you also likely wont have then. If you buy that REServation anyway-just show the ticket and let them do the rest-they are pretty much used to that and 123456 others have preceded you.
