Hi, I'm new to this whole interrailing thing but my and my friend have made a plan and appreciate it if someone could check to see if we're on the right track with times etc.

File link removed as timed out. Please post your routes directly in the forum . Thank you.

Any other advice would be most helpful as this is our first time doing this.

Hi.
Looks very professional your planning. :)

Innsbruck: do you plan something special there? Otherwise you could include here Salzburg and Vienna. Then from Vienna to Venice.
But Venice is expensive and full of tourists. One night should be really enough there!
Lake Bled is cool. You can do some rafting there if you like or just wandering around. :)
From Budapest continue to Krakow (Poland) - an old town with a lot of students and a good night life. Auschwitz is also close by.
Then continue to Prague.
And if possible, add Berlin. Definitely worth!

Handmade schedules are here with all the details about extra reservation fees and connections on how to avoid them:

Just a bit of an update and a few questions. We've had to come up with a new route (similar but in reverse) due to flight times. We've booked our flights already so they are rigid and can't be changes. Our new route is looking like:

[img:1trb41q3]http://i39.tinypic.com/33oip6t.png[/img:1trb41q3]

We were planning a day trip on one of the days at Munich to eagle's nest and also another day for a trip to salzburg.

One of my concerns is the train from Venice to Geneva as it just seems a bit of a waste of a day, but after having had a look around it seems possible to get a night train from venice to salzburg (although does arrive at about 4am) and then continuing onto Geneva for our flight. This means we could cut a day from Munich to add on somewhere else.

Alternatively is there anywhere else we can go after Venice before Geneva, maybe somewhere is the Swiss/Italian Alps?

Any advice appreciated :)

Hej,

first, you will have to rearrange the Budapest - Split bit: This year the direct night train only runs from 15th June to 31st August on Tuesdays and Fridays only. :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/budapest-to-split

What you could do: Go Budapest - Zagreb during the day and then on to Split with the Zagreb - Split domestic night train; or rearrange your route again, more or less like this: Vienna - Venice (with night train) - Bled - Split - Budapest - Zürich (with night train).

You could go Venezia - Salzburg with mentionend night train and get off early (in fact you could stay on the train until 6am since it has to wait in Salzburg quite a while because it is attached to another train there)...but you will need a reservation anyway.
When do you have to be at the airport in Geneve? I think there wont be enough time for a nice trip through the Swiss Alps but here we go:
Venezia 0850 - 1125 Milano Centrale (10€ reservation)
What would be nice then is to go to Graubünden (Tirano - St Moritz - Chur) but that would be too time consuming. So, what you could do is to go via the Gotthard route: Milano - Chiasso (best by regional trains unless you are willing to pay another 10€ for the reservation of the EC; attention, you will have to change from Milano Centrale to Milano Porta Garibaldi station); then via Bellinzona - Arth-Goldau - Luzern to Geneve...however this is rather time consuming, I would say you could be in Geneve at around 8pm... And the classic route via Milano - Brig - Lausanne to Geneve is quite scenic as well, so you might just go that way. Remeber you will need to get a reservation for the Milano - Geneve EC as well (10€)!
What you could do is to spend one extra day for Switzerland and go from Venezia to Graubünden as suggested above (via Milano - Tirano - Bernina Pass to Pontresina) and the following day via Filisur - Disentis - Andermatt - Brig to Geneve...

Eagles nest: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/eagles-nest-kehlsteinhaus-train/f2639#p9002

Ok think I've got it now. Have took on your suggestions and came up with the following:

Do you think this route will work well? I'm thinking we might cut down the venice stay to just the 1 night and have an extra night in Budapest. It also seemed possible to avoid spending most of the 20th stuck on a train by using night trains but they involved staying up till 1:40 in Salzburg and getting into Zurich at early hours which doesn't leave much time for sleep and I think we'll be pretty tired by then!

Hej!

- Venice to Bled: You have chosen the InterCity Bus for the first leg to Villach which would require a 9€ reservation; I would recommend to go via Gorizia/Nova Gorizia instead:
Venezia Santa Lucia 0718 - 1002 Gorizia Centrale
Walk across the twin town to the Slovenian station of Nova Gorica
Nova Gorica 1115 - 1310 Bled Jezero :arr: this is the famous Bohinj Railway, running via Solkan Bridge with the longest stone arch of all railway bridges. :)

Apart from that the route seems ok. :)
It might actually be a good idea to cut one night in Venice and stay longer in Budapest instead - Venice is rather expensive and you can see most of the important stuff within one day, whereas Budapest has a lot to offer.
