Hello, Im looking for some help to see if anyone can give me any comments or views on my route with interrail. I will be leaving London on the 28th May and I plan on getting the pass to start on the 2nd or 3rd of June. I will then be looking to go to Interlaken, then to Nice, then Rome, then Venice for a day, then overnight to Munich, then overnighto Bratislava, then a train in the morning to Budapest, then overnight to Prague, then from Prague to Berlin, then overnight from Berlin to Amsterdam to arrive on the morning of the 29th. Does this seem doable as I plan on buying the Global 1 month continuous pass.

I have a few questions however.

What is the difference between Eurail and Interrail. Sorry if thats naive.
Secondly I seem to be struggling to find a train leaving from Rome to Venice on the 14th, I thought they would be quite frequent however the only one I can find is at 19.45 which isn't much use.
Is it easy to book the trains and are there quite a large number of seats available, i.e is there ever any issues with reserving seats.

I would basically just like anyones views and opinions and help really...

Thanks :D

Hi.

You have in total ~10 travel days. This is not a lot for the Interrail ONE Month Global Pass.
Think about the 10 travel days in 22 days Interrail Pass and add at the beginning or end a point-to-point ticket.
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-global-pass
Just a proposal to save your money. :)

London - Paris - Interlaken: London to Paris, either by ferry or bus/ferry. Or if you can get a special deal for Eurostar it's fine as well.
The most common way is Paris - Basel - Interlaken.

Interlaken - Nice: I recommend the trip beginning in the morning at 0900. Interlaken, change in Bern, change in Geneva, Geneva-Nice Ville by TGV. Not running daily, but if you can get this one, it is a relaxing option.

Nice - Rome: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/nice-to-rome

Rome - Venice: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/rome-to-venice

Venice - Munich: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/venice-to-munich

Munich - Bratislava: I recommend Vienna instead of Bratislava.
https://rail.cc/en/train/munich-to-vienna
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/vienna-to-bratislava

Bratislava - Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/bratislava-to-budapest

Budapest - Prague: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/budapest-to-prague

Prague - Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/prague-to-berlin

Berlin - Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/berlin-to-amsterdam

If you want, add Krakow between Budapest and Prague.
Also if you like, for example Hamburg or Cologne on your way to Amsterdam.
Amsterdam back to London is possible by ferry via Hoek van Holland:

- What is the difference between Eurail and Interrail. Sorry if that's naive.
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-rules
Interrail for Europeans, Eurail for non-Europeans.

- Secondly I seem to be struggling to find a train leaving from Rome to Venice on the 14th, I thought they would be quite frequent however the only one I can find is at 19.45 which isn't much use.

Italy will add their changes very late (end of May). Calculate with the schedules of for example May. They won't change a lot.
Also the here mentioned schedules on railcc are handmade and you will always find connections free of extra fees.

- Is it easy to book the trains and are there quite a large number of seats available, i.e is there ever any issues with reserving seats.
There is no general answer available. It always depends on the route, the day, if national holidays start or not. On the route you travel, you will always have options avoiding trains with required reservations.
If you like, you can prebook the first two steps of your trip before you start online here on railcc. The TGV Geneva-Nice for example.
I do it always this way: when arriving in a city, I book the reservation (if required) directly at the railway station. So I can enjoy my stay in the city and know when I leave.

If you like the railcc project, please support it and purchase your official Interrail pass here on the recommended website. Thank you. Peter :)

This is our final draft I think,
Does this look suitable? Also taking Vienna into account:-

Travelling Plan
Fly to London morning of 28th May, train from Luton to St Pancras, Stay in Clink 72 Hostel. Leave London on Morning 31st, 8.31 Train to Paris.

Arrive in Paris at 11.45am on 31st, stay in St Christophers Inn, leave on morning of 3rd June for Interlaken, train via Basel, 5 hours.

Stay in Interlaken until morning of 7th, then day of travelling on the 7th, train to Bern then onwards to Geneva then to Nice. 10 Hours roughly. So arrive evening on 7th.

Leave Nice on 9th or afternoon in order to arrive in Rome on the 10th before lunchtime to meet Frost. Arrive in Rome on morning of 10th or midday.
Rome on morning of 14th to go to Venice.Leaving Rome early 8-10am, then 4hour journey to Venice, spend day in Venice then overnight train to Munich. Leave Venice at 22.51 and arrive at 6.30.

Arrive in Munich early morning of 15th, leave Munich to Vienna on the morning of the 17th. 4-5 hours leaving in morning,

Leave Vienna on 18th to Bratislava. 1hour train. Leave Bratislava on 20th.
Arrive in Budapest from Bratislava on 20th, morning train. From Budapest overnight train on 22nd or train on 23rd to Prague.

Arrive in Prague early on the 23rd or later, skydive on the 24th, leave Prague on morning of 26th, due to shorter distance between Prague and Berlin, leave around 8/9am and arrive at around about 12/1pm.

Arrive in Prague early afternoon of the 26th and leave Berlin afternoon or late at night to arrive in Amsterdam on morning of 29th.

Once in Amsterdam on the 29th, stay in Flying Pig Downtown and get flight home from Schiphol at about 9.30 on the 2nd July.

Any comments would be great

Thanks

Hi.
Some short comments...

London - Paris: try to get special price tickets. Don't use the Interrail discount (=EUR 75!!!!). :((
You should get cheaper point to point tickets. Or use the overnight bus connection for EUR 35.

Interlaken: if you don't have anything special to do there, I would recommend Zurich for example. Better night life. With stop for example in Lucerne.
Or some trips in the mountains by train!?

Bratislava: think about skipping it completely. Better include Krakow. Budapest - Krakow - Prague.

Venice - Munich: try to get this reservation already before arriving in Venice. Either online (you can order it here together with your Interrail pass) or at a railway station on your way to Venice.

Peter :)
