Hello,
I'm planning for my group of 4 friends to Interrail this July. We're considering the 10 countries in 22 days Global pass and have planned a route of Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen and finish in Stockholm. I've been researching which trains and stations to use, and am getting confused by which trains interrail includes. Finding some of the trains is turning out to be quite difficult, and some of the train times are unusually long, such as Rome - Milan says on the website it would last 20 hours?! When im sure you could drive it for around 3!? Also with longer distances such as Paris to Barcelona, is there a way to avoid the expensive sleeper trains? Or if they're worth it we'd be willing to pay a little extra I'm sure, but dont quite know which to pick!
If you could help me out by giving me some tips or ideas for my route i would really, really appreciate it,
Thanks,
Holly

Hi Holly.
I suppose your are searching with a date somewhen in summer.
Note this: https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route
So you won't find all detailed routes for summer now, just use a date of this week - connections won't change a lot. :)
Here we listed handmade routes which will show you ways, how to avoid extra fees:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
All train types you can use or not with Interrail: https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail
Paris-Barcelona: use a French night train and cross the Pyrenees by the Little Yellow Train:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/paris-to-barcelona
Little Yellow Train:
https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/
Barcelona-Rome: I recommend the ferry, except you want to have a stop at Nice, Monaco, etc:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/barcelona-to-rome
And think about adding Krakow (Poland) - good night life in an old town! And definitely cheaper than Amsterdam, Paris, etc. :)

Thank you so much for your response, really helpful!
I think i've now sorted out the route, but there are some routes for example Budapest - Prague https://rail.cc/en/train/budapest-to-prague where it implies normal train tickets are the same price as interrail tickets, is this because these trains arent included on interrail or am i just interpretting it wrong? Would you recomend us getting these trains anyway because they are only a few euros and the best option available? Or are there interrail trains for these routes instead?
And also the Paris - Barcelona route you gave seems great, is the little yellow train free on interrail?
And for the Barcelona to Rome, the ferry looks to be about £80 each including the interrail discount, which seems a little beyond our budget, is there a next best alternative you would recommend?
Thanks Peter :)

Hi Holly.
Budapest - Prague: these EUR 4 are the RESERVATION FEE!!!
It says: a reservation is possible but not required.
And the EUR 4 is this fee.
The fee is mentioned for
- Train tickets = persons travelling with normal point to point tickets.
- Interrail = persons travelling with an Interrail pass
- Eurail = persons travelling with an Eurail pass.
railcc is not only for Interrail travellers, it is for all types of rail travels, train tickets and rail passes. :)
You can of course use this train for FREE - without a reservation. There are no special Interrail trains, an Interrail pass is a normal train ticket which is used on the national railway companies in the countries taking part on Interrail.
The Little Yellow Train is free. Simply click the link I gave you, then the times and you will see:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/-to-
InterRail: no additional charges
The ferry: wait a little bit, special prices for the summer will be available around March/April.
If you don't use the ferry, I recommend one or two stops in between on your route. The city ofNice in France for example.
And if you want to support the railcc project, buy your official Interrail pass here on the recommended website. Delivery is free to the UK. Thank you! :)

Hello, thanks again for everything, I just have another quick question,
I am interested in getting the Paris-Portbou night train stopping in Perpignon and then getting 'the little yellow train' to Barcelona like you recommended, but I am struggling because it says it is not daily but shows no indication of what days it actually runs, so i was wondering whether you knew & could tell me what days it runs or how to find out?
Thanks,
Holly

Hi.
In the summer months the connection usually runs daily.
So no worries.
As there are construction works in Southern France, the French railway is publishing the schedules only some weeks in advance... that's why there is written not daily ... I can't preview the travel times for the summer months right now...
But the past years there was the night train running every day...
So relax and just wait a little bit to see if the night train is available.

Hello,
Please can you help we've got into a mess! Our group had originally planned on getting the night train from Rome to Vienna on Wednesday the 18th July but have found that it is fully booked up and I cant find an alternative route which isnt massively expensive. We were hoping to be in Budapest by the Friday evening because we booked a hostel there but are willing to slightly change our route but cant find anything suitable! What would you recomend/do if it were you? Ideally a way to get from Rome to Budapest cheaply? If it helps we were wanting to go to Krakow soon after that, and could cut out Budapest, if that makes things any easier?
Really sorry to be a bother, any help would really be appreciated!! Thanks!

Ok i've just booked the ticket through your website but we're going on Interrail on the wednesday and it only let me order standard delivery. Is there any way you can pay extra for next day delivery?
Thanks

No. For the UK only the one mentioned there.
