Hey folks!

I want to travel from Portugal to Austria by train through Spain, France and Switzerland.

I want to do it in this way:
- Lisbon -> Madrid : 12th Feb 16h38 -> 13th Feb 07h50
- Madrid -> Avignon: 14th Feb 13h30 -> 15th Feb 07h20
- Avignon -> Zürich: 16th Feb 12h18 -> 16th Feb 19h56
- Zürich -> Wien: 17th Feb 18h16 -> 18th Feb 05h59
(or with railjet as an alternative: 18th Feb 14h40 -> 18th Feb 22h44)

My questions are the following:
- Each of them could be a onedaytravel on my InterRail pass? In this case a 5 days within 10 days pass is enough? Or I have to buy a 10 days within 22 days pass?
- What kind of extra fees I have to pay? I mean I know, I have to pay for night trains, and special trains where are reservation fee as a supplement, but is there anything else? Can I pay these on the trainstations?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Peter

Ohhh, I've found an interesting information: If your train's departure is after 7pm and the train's arrival is after 4am, you have to write on your pass only the arrival date.

Is it true? Cuz, in this case i have to change the trains...

Hi Peter,

I see you are from Hungary - do you want to go there after Wien? Or do you want to go back (fly?) to Portugal?

It is also important what is your country of residence currently - Hungary or Portugal? :arr: https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

I am wondering about some connections you found:

Lisbon - Madrid: dep 1638? Where did you find this route? There is only one connection at the moment :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/lisbon-to-madrid
Madrid - Avignon: arr 0720? Do you spend the night somewhere? It should be possible to do this whithin one day as well.

Overall, you should be fine with a 5in10 if planned carefully. Depending on your country of residence you might also think to get a regular Web tariff ticket for Lisbon - Madrid from Renfe instead of using IR on this leg. Then it is definitely no problem to go with 5in10.

For a list of trains which require a reservation look here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

Hy flow,

First of all thanks for the quick reply, and sorry for my late one :D

From Vienna I will go to Budapest by car. Now I'm here in Portugal for one semester as an Erasmus visit, but it will be ended two weeks later. I was travelling here a lot, and I want to finish my journey with another :)

I changed almost all my trains, cuz I will visit a spanish gril in Badajoz, and I also want to record the mountains in Switzerland and Austria. :P

Here is the new timetable:
- 13th 7:39am Lisbon -> 13th 12:49am Badajoz
- 14th 2:20pm Badajoz -> 14th 7:56pm Madrid
- 15th 9:00pm Madrid -> 16th 1:20pm Avignon
- 17th 1:21pm Avignon -> 17th 7:28pm Zurich
- 18th 2:40pm Zurich -> 18th 10:44pm Wien

(And yes from Madrid to Avignon, I will spend 6 hours on the trainstation in Barcelona waiting for the exchange)

I found this trains by fahrplan.oebb.at website.

Based on this time schedule, I think the 5in10 pass will be enough 8)

I just forget the question. :os

So your suggestion is that I should go to Badajoz with this Web tariff ticket, and buy the InterRail pass from 14th?

Hej,

sorry for mylate answer... ;)

First, we will have to sort out whether you have to get a Hungarian or Portuguese InterRail pass.
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail
If you have spent the last six months (or more) in Portugal you will have to get an InterRail pass with country of residence Portugal - this means that you would need a regular discounted ticket to the border. In this case it might make more sense to get a Web tariff ticket from RENFE for the trip to Madrid and start with InterRail from there.
Going to Badajoz does not really make since CP has abandoned regional trains to Elvas/Badajoz. You have to go with the direct night train Lusitania
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/lisbon-to-madrid

If you want to go to Badajoz by train now you will have to go to Madrid first and then back...quite complicated. :|

The other connections look fine, although remember that you will need a reservation for the Madrid to Barcelona AVE high speed train (10€).
