I am flying from Edinburgh to Berlin in July. Does anyone have a recommended itinerary for two weeks of travel? I was thinking of the following: Berlin - Vienna - Budapest - Lake Bled - Venice. However I am completely open to other suggestions.
I am travelling with my girlfriend and I plan to propose to her when we are away, so I suppose that romantic places would be appropriate.
From a personal point of view it might be nice to visit somewhere new (I have already visited the following places when backpacking in 2008: Munich, Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Basel, Bern, Prague, Budapest, Salzburg, Vienna, Lake Bled, Ljubljana, Split, Dubrovnik, Rome, Florence, Barcelona, Krakow, Venice, Interlaken), but realise that this may not be possible unless we go to Scandinavia, or to Eastern Europe which I guess are a bit far flung for two weeks travel. It also means that she will miss out on some great places! Have I missed out on any good cities/towns which are closer to Berlin?
Thanks.

If you're planning to propose her, i definitely think you should do it in Verona. or somewhere in italy :D those places are the most romantic places i have ever seen, and thats why i think she will never forget that :)
You should go to Hamburg, i think. or to Amsterdam (if you have never been there before) because you would be near those towns :) and i recommend you sarajevo and maybe zagreb. :D

Hi,
I think you made a good selection already...along this route you could think about maybe adding Dresden, which is really beautiful. If you are into nature as well you could stay a little longer and visit the Elbe Valley/Saxon Switzerland.
Have you thought about using overnight trains as well? At least on the way to Vienna this could be an option.
Vienna - Budapest - Ljubljana - Lake Bled is quite easy, but then the tricky part: getting into Italy.
Since December, there are no trains SI <> IT anymore. :( However, there are still several options to cross the border rather easily.
From Lake Bled take the train via the Bohinj Railway through the narrow Soca valley until Nova Gorica. There you have the first option to cross the border: Either on foot or by bus to Gorizia (it is a twin town in SI and IT) and from there to Venezia.
Or, what I would recommend, continue to Sezana and then cross the border by bus to Villa Opicina. There, you can take an old tramway which runs down to Trieste. From there you can continue to Venezia.
In Italy, Verona or Firenze are certainly other nice romantic places.
In Slovenia, Piran is beautiful as well, although you can not go there by train directly (bus from Koper).
In Germany, Rothenburg ob der Tauber could be interesting? Although it is a little of route...shouldnt be a problem though if you like it.
