Heyy! :)
Me and my friend really want to try interrailing this summer for the firts time.
We are thinking of buying the 10 days in 22 days pass, and we were wondering roughly how much spending money would you advise we take? and how many places would be best to visit? we do not want to be on the train most of the time and want to spend some time in the cities we visit so I reckon less than 10 places?
Also the places we would most like to visit are - Paris, Nice, Amsterdam, Munich, Berlin, Prague, Florence, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid!
Out of these places where would you say were the places which we should visit the most? And which are not that great? or any recomendations? We can't seem to decide on the places we want to see the most, as its such a short space of time and theres so much to see! However we could not aford any longer :(
We want to see a mixture of places; a lot of scenery but also places with quite a lively nightlife and we want to visit some beach places to relax.
Also I really wanted to visit Dubrovnik as it looks beautiful! But I know its a lot further away from the other places, and would be such a hassle to get to so it might not be worth it? Would you think it was advisable to visit Dubrovnik another time rather than during InterRail?
I would appreciate any help or thoughts!!
Thank you :D

Hi!
You want to visit 10 cities which normally should be possible with the 10in22 pass...however you are saying that you do not want to rush through the cities and have a little bit more time in each one. You will have to decide: Whether you visit all cities and continue after two days or so, or visit less cities but stay longer.
Do you have any plans on how to get to the continent/back home? Plane or train/ferry? Anyway, Paris probably would be the most convenient place to start...however you could start in Amsterdam as well, for example if you choose to go with Harwich - Hook van Holland ferry. Or at any other place if you find a cheap flight there.
In any case, try to travel more or less in a circle, in order to get best connections between the cities and not sit on the train too long.
A possible route could look like this:
Paris - Amsterdam - night train to Prague - Berlin - night train to Munich - night train to Roma - Florence - Nice - Barcelona - Madrid
I included some night trains so you can spend maximum time in each city. There are still some scenic stretches of track included, as: The Elbe valley between Prague and Dresden (sit on the right side), along the coast on the way to Nice (sit on the left) as well as onwards to Barcelona (sit on the left again)
As you would still have one travel day left, I would suggest a small detour to the Petit Train Jaune between Nice and Barcelona: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/villefranche-de-conflent-to-latour-de-carol
Best places for some relaxing on the beach on your route would be:
Berlin, either at the Spree or at Wannsee
Nice or some place close to it, I'd go to Villefranche
Some place between Nice and Barcelona, maybe Sète or Agde...
And of course Barcelona
Dubrovnik almost certainly will be too far off route...of course you could go there if you really want but due to the fact that it doesnt even have a railway connection it probably would be too complicated especially since your other destinations are rather far away.

Thank you so much for you're advice!
I have done a bit more planning, and we have decided the 15 day pass would be best for us.
I think we will get a plane from Edinburgh to Amsterdam
then Amsterdam-Berlin-Prague-Munich-(night train)-Florence-Rome-Nice-(Night train)-Paris
And then pay for the train from Paris to London.
I was wondering, do you know if there are night trains from Rome to Nice or Prague to Munich? because I could not find any.
Thank you!

Hi,
get the 10in22 instead...you will be fine with 10 travel days.
Go Munich - Rome with the night train (since you will be able to sleep longer), then Florence and finally Nice.
There are no night trains Rome - Nice or Prague - Munich, both have been discontinued some years ago.

Yeah I was going to do that but I couldnt find any trains from Florence - Nice,
If we were to visit Pisa for the day how do you think the best way would be to fit this in?
Its just an idea, we are not too bothered about it and not sure if its worth it if its too much hassle with trains?
And ohh yeah, the 10 in 22 day pass makes much more sense for the trip we are wanting! haha thanks!

Hi Amber,
I quickly edited a Florence - Nice route with a four hour stopover in Pisa. :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/florence-to-nice
Definitely go to Rome first, it is much more comfortable to get out of the train at 9am than at 6am. From Roma to Firenze I would recommend to get one of the AV (high speed) trains for which a 10€ reservation is required.
From Firenze to Nice it is almost the same as to start from Roma, whether with or without a stop in Pisa.

Oh I didnt realise you could change the trains, thats perfect thank you!
I'm not completely sure what the 15 day pass means sorry, does it mean 15 travel days with out a set length of time, or does it mean use the train as often as you want with in 15 days?
Thank you so much for all your help!

A 15 days IR pass is valid ie from 1st May, 0000 until 15th May 2359. Within that period you can travel as much as you like with all train companies included in InterRail. You only have to pay attention to certain trains which may require an additional reservation. :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
