Hi Vinther.
Which countries and cities do you want to visit ?
As the big Western European cities might be very expensive. Eastern Europe is much cheaper.
The most of money you can save on accommodation and on food - I recommend to have your own camping gas stove with you.
EUR 40 should be fine in average.

The tool is to get an overview. The result really depends on the personal behaviour.
Have a look on [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] to find out prices for hostels.
I don't know which options you selected at the tool, but EUR 57 is already a bit the luxury version without dorms in hostels. :)
In Lisbon you will find inexpensive hostels with high quality. Berlin is also okay, the other cities are more or less expensive.
As well the route from Paris to London is expensive using the direct Eurostar train. Better to use train/ferry or bus/ferry.
Details about routes and extra fees here:

Hi!
I dont know what you have filled in the calculator, neither do I know your preferences for accomodation, eating out and to which countries you are going.
However, ~1700 is quite expensive and I am certain you could do much cheaper...if you want to. ;)
Unfortunately, cities as Paris, Amsterdam, Roma,... are quite expensive during the peak summer, especially the accomodation costs can be quite high quickly. On the opposite, other places as Lisbon, Berlin, Wien, even Barcelona can be rather cheap.
If you cook by yourself in the hostel kitchen, you can save a lot of money...supermarkets are usually cheap everywhere.
